The Nationals have acquired Indians SS Asdrubal Cabrera for infielder Zach Walters, according to multiple reports (MLB Trade Rumors, July 31).
Earlier today, it was reported that the Nationals, Blue Jays and two other teams had been in contact with the Indians about Cabrera (FoxSports, July 31), while the Blue Jays and Giants expressed interest earlier this month.
Cabrera, 28, who is hitting .246 with a .305 OBP and .386 slugging, is due roughly $3 million the rest of this season, after which he can be a free agent.
Matthew Cerrone: I saw zero evidence the Mets were interested in Cabrera. I recall them having limited interest this past off season, but that was about it. This time around, given he’s a free agent after this year, I can’t imagine he was high on their list. My understanding from friends in Cleveland was that, if they were going to deal him, it would be for a young, zero-to-three starting pitcher, such as Dillon Gee.
