Alex-Rios

Mets and Yankees not mentioned among teams interested in Rios

The Yankees and Mets are not mentioned among the five teams showing interest in Rangers OF Alex Rios (Heyman, July 31).

The Rangers have been working to trade Rios (Martino, July 29), his market is gaining momentum (Brown, July 30) and Texas will pay a portion of the roughly $5 million left on his deal to make get a deal done (Rosenthal, July 30).

Rios, 33, has just four home runs in 2014, compared to 18 in 2013. His team will hold a $13.5 million option on him for 2015, or they can buy him out for $1 million and make him a free agent. The Mets are not on his six-team no-trade list (Cots Baseball Contracts).

Want a nightmare scenario? Rios in the same outfield as CY.

Over the past 40 days (dating back to June 21), CY's OPS has been .803, higher over that period than  Wright, Granderson, Murf, Lagares, Tejada, EY, Abreu.  Yes, I've cherry-picked the date by looking for when CY's OPS for the season hit bottom and started to come back.  But that doesn't negate the point that CY did hit bottom some time ago and has not been bad at the plate since then.
