Bartolo Colon 1

Teams had interest in Colon, but not at Alderson’s price

Mets officials do not expect to trade Bartolo Colon today (NY Post, July 30). Instead, expect them to try and move him through waivers in August (NY Post, July 31).

Teams turned away from Colon because of his age, body shape, history with steroids, and Sandy Alderson’s reluctance to pay a portion of the $11 million due to him in 2015, the New York Post’s Joel Sherman told MLB Network late Thursday afternoon.

Instead, Sherman said the Mets may look to move Colon this winter when, with one year and $11 million on his deal, he’ll be more valuable compared to comparable starting pitchers getting significantly more money on the open market.

The Orioles (CBS Sports, July 31) and Royals (Daily News, July 30) recently expressed interest, and the Blue Jays, Mariners and Dodgers had been linked to him earlier this month.

What if he gets injured?

Alderson and TC need to go

Glad we kept Murph; upset about Colon...want to deal him, but it's not too late and can still see him go in August.

Didn't nobody want TC? That makes two of us,...

I think 90% of the people leaving comments don't know anything about these prospects. Yes we have ample amount of pitching. Thats great but why trade 5 huge pieces for a player like tulo who constantly gets injured???? One poor move could potentially put us back 5 years.... I don't know about you but I wouldn't want to go back to those days

Other than Harvey and deGrom, I would be willing to trade anyone else to get a hitter who could help and fill a need.

Plus the I think the Mets have some concern about Niese's and Dice K's health, losing them and innings limit for deGrom and the Mets could be left short in September.

While I appreciate folks idea of having patience and not trading for the sake of change, I am very disappointed that they did not pull off a deal to get a reasonable outfielder. Allen Craig would have been a signif improvement over Chris Young. Im sure Colon and a non Syndegard prospect would have provided SA with a chance to land him in NY. It seems to me all about the dollars.

When the mets get garbage like Jed Lowrie and Alex Rios in free agency you guys would understand what I mean..as far as how cheap the mets are.

Isn't it funny how our friend Eric88 says Harvey will be nothing next year after his injury but then proclaims how great Jose Fernandez is with the same injury?

Then when someone points this out to him, he disappears. Of course.

If Sandy had a price for his players and a price he was willing to pay for other players and teams didn't agree to those prices then good for him in not making a move.  He has proven that there is a top value he would agree on for trades and he sticks to it.  Admittedly it is hard to sit around and see top teams make unbelievable trades while the Mets don't we have to believe in Sandy.

anyone watching DNL who just said (in regards to Detroit and Oakland) "gotta feel bad for those writers, those are the worst two cities in America"

That's cold but true

Sometimes I wonder if Yankee fans would rather they have the crappy players they trade for that won't help them get anywhere because they can add millions of dollars of the fans money or a coupon for a free beer every once in a while

@steve333 Alderson does not need to go. He's put us in a fantastic position to compete next year and beyond. Why make a bad deal now, when you can wait until the end of the year to make an even better deal?

P.S. Colon is very durable.

@Vic Scarpelli Eat some more fiber and you should have no trouble making that movement.

Thank u finally someone who makes sense. Yes we have pitching depth but in this age of tj depth is necessary. There is nothing dumber than trading the wheeler darnaurd or plawecki plus montero package it would take to get one of the most injury prone expensive players. I'm not taking anything away from Tulo he is undisputedly the best ss when he is on the field

@Peter Jeff The only thing to know about prospects is to know that nothing's for sure. When you have a chance to go for the sure thing, you do it.

@nhmetsfan Actually in this case it was more of St. Louis being all about the money. They got Lackey who not only has plenty of post season experience, but is only going to cost them $500,000 next year for a guy who can't field and a a relief pitcher. I'd make that deal every day of the week

heynow20

So you would have been happy if we traded Colon and Montero for Allen Craig?

Already did.  Go pout about it.

@theglider I will go slow for you. Allot of guys ar not back to form the 1st year after surgery, fact. He responded he will be fantastic. Using That analogy I then said, well than what about Miami with Fernanadez and now Cozart. Get it yet?

@Tormented Mets Fan Oakland is a great place. Oakland hills are gorgeous and SF is 10 miles away.

@Tormented Mets Fan Detroit is wonderful. I love going down to the city and walking around. I feel so safe wandering around. people are really friendly.

@heynow20

yes. He hit over .300 in 2012 and 2013 , hit in the clutch in postseason and is a signif upgrade even with his offyear this year. At this point,  it looks like Colon will go for nothing next month .

And when he mentioned Fernandez' injury you replied with, well, you didn't reply. Which is typical.

Anytime someone calls you out on anything you run away. Anytime a player you complain about does anything, you're silent about it. All you do is complain. It's comical. Good for some laughs. All at your expense.

Remember, if you need to look around for the sucker in the room, it's you.

@eric88 @theglider I don't understand your lack of reading skills, because you wrote things I did not say, and misunderstood what I said. So I also question your thinking process.

Actually I've said I don't think Flores is a shortstop. From day 1 I've talked about upgrading. I went on about getting Starlin Castro a few days ago. Get your facts straight.

@Tormented Mets Fan like all cities, you have to know where to go, and where not to go. I've gone to a lot of sports events in Oakland and it's fun. Going to see the Mets play the A's on the 19th, I think.

Jazz at Yoshi's is great. Jack London Square is fun and has pretty good restaurants. SF Restaurants  and chefs are incredible.

@Tormented Mets Fan No, with Detroit you're right. I just took a sarcasm pill and felt like using it. And for those that might get antsy, yes, I live in Michigan and Detroit is 30 min away plus I worked there for 9 years. I have the bullet holes to prove it, in my car AND in my body.

theglider

Of course you wouldn't. Just keep looking around. You'll get it eventually.

Mexpert

@theglider Actually you have praised Tejada and Flores is superior to Tejada in every way. Only idiots including Terry see it the other way. One is a baseball player the other is a bad version of Alex Cora.

theglider
theglider

And that's your opinion. I like defense at short. I don't see Flores giving us any. All I hear is people praising his hitting. Great. But what he does in AAA doesn't matter in the majors.

I don't care who plays short as long as they can field. Flores hasn't shown that ability. It may be why he was playing second in Vegas before his latest call up.

jenkins

@mets74 @jenkins @Tormented Mets Fan you can just go to Bloomfield Hills, right? At least for dinner.

@eric88 he is really stupid dont waste time his infatuation with Tejada and his animosity toward Flores is unnatural.

@theglider Fact look at his errors lack of range and infield hit when he manges to stop a ball.

@theglider Tejada because he has no range, he spends his time flopping around he the dirt.
