Still no name for Mets spring training home in St. Lucie

“It looks like the New York Mets will be celebrating their 25th spring training in Port St. Lucie in a stadium without an official name,” Jon Santucci reports for the Treasure Coast News.

The stadium had been named Digital Domain Park since 2010, prior to which it was named Tradition Field. However, Digital Domain Media Group ended the $100,000-a-year contract with the Mets during its bankruptcy filing last year.

The stadium temporarily is being called Mets Stadium, according to Santucci, who says the team and county split the revenue from the naming rights, which are paid on a quarterly basis.

This may be the least important story of the day, but I’m compelled to post it probably because I’m so eager to turn the page to Spring Training. I never took to calling that place Digital Domain Park anyway, which had zero baseball feel, so I’m glad it’s gone. I think I said, ‘Tradition,” anyway, out of habit.

At any rate, I’m in the early stages of planning for MetsBlog’s trip down to St. Lucie. It’s looking I will be there only the first full week of workouts, taking pictures, posting video, and trying to relay life in the sun to fans who can’t be there. It’s my favorite time of year. However, with my wife due in April and taking care of an 18-month old, I can’t be there any later in February. So, I’m hoping to be able to send other members of Team MetsBlog to help keep the content going…
