In Bill James new book, Gold Mine 2009, James points out that Luis Castillo was the most patient hitter in baseball last season, adding:
“He took 68 percent of the pitches he saw; no other hitter took more than 64 percent.”
Also, according to James, “David Wright drove in Jose Reyes 42 times last year, the second-highest figure for a pair of teammates in the last six years.”
Lastly, speaking of Reyes, he led off 317 innings last season, according to James, the most of any hitter in baseball.
James also discusses Johan Santana’s success rate against teams over .500, and their record had it only needed to play three innings per day, plus he details statistics for the rest of league.
