I was so disappointed to see Hernandez still doing Mets broadcasts. I thought that the powers that be would have been smart.

Meaningless games, but a problem not talked about enough over the last couple of years, is how the Met's lose games from the seventh inning on. I hope that some attention is paid to this and an effort is made to create an environment where it Really Matters to hold on to a lead in the later innings. That is the only thought that stuck with me from this game.

we're all holding our breathe on Ike. He did have good st last yr...so whether more at bats will helps him to  positive transiton into reg season, we can only hope...same w/ tejada..and all of them really!

I was hoping Kevin would interview one of the greatest Mets players to ever put on a met uniform in fonzie, but he never did. Puello does look good at the plate. Some key Mets looked good too, Ike, Duda, CY and Legaras. I hope it all translates into the reg season. But only 1 game with same result. Lets see.

Few things I saw that like very much. First Tejada is in shape this year and looks eager. So is Flores.

Nínheis hit pretty well and looks a different player. Srcond pitching is good, so we def. going to the offseason in 2014. Lets go Mets!

Ike had great spring last year. Don't get lured in by that. Bright lights, big city up north will change that. He isnt cut out to play here. Classic 'change of scenery' trade needed. I wish him luck - classy guy - but needs to move on

Let me know when the games mean something. Until then a guy can hit 1.000 and it doesn't matter.

I agree. Flories

was a hitting machine at AAA. His swing is much more sound than either Ike or Duda. 3 years of them is enough.

God I wish they would play Wilmer Flores at 1B everyday. He would be  middle of the order RBI machine. Trade Ike and send Duda to Las Vegas. Enough with them already

Guys, please remember, IKE hit.327 last spring and beginning opening day he couldn't buy a hit. Ike is to insecure to play in NY or eventually on a contender. His make up is to fragile.IKE will always hit when theres no pressure.

If I were the opposition, I'd probably give the worst hitters the best pitches to hit.

Watch out for the name Puello. This kid is gonna light up Vegas this year and be on the ML roster by July. I've been following him since he was drafted. He's gonna be the real deal.

The players who matter looked good, those that don't were underwhelming, but who cares about them? Good first ST game from my P.O.V. Lets hope Ike, Lagares and d'Arnaud can continue to swing those sticks like they did today.

Great game today. Do NOT trade Montero. If Niese pitches decent his first ST outing, would Seattle or Arizona take him in return for a SS? Why wait for the trade deadline, when he could be hurt way before then?

That wasn't a home run that was a rocket.  On a silly note once again Duda can't drive in a run with his ground rule double.

Ike is winning the first base battle so far . lol

It is crucial that Davis get off to a good start. He needs the confidence and he needs to have the backing of at least some fans. He is still on the Mets so I hope he can turn it around. It's the first game and it is one home run but at least he is startin on a good note rather than a bad.

Eric Koeller

All in All a good first outing. Montero was downright steller, both Ike and Duda hit hit a few balls hard. Lageres had a few hits.

We're still waiting for d'Arnaud to step up and show us what the scouts are always saying. It's early, of course, but he looked exactly as he did last year. When, O when is this kid going to jell?

@rubiconx0  damn, it's only been one game... that being said, I'd still like us to get Franklin

@amazagain Ike hit well, but didn't hit hrs last ST really so we'll see. Definitely give him time to re-establish himself this year and if it doesn't workout so be it. Rather him than Duda/Satin though.

@eric88  Flores is not that good, you'll be crying for those two guys when Flores doesn't perform the way you think

@eric88  There is more pressure on Ike and Duda this spring more than ever before.

@Jimmy   Jimmie, you are absolutely right. Besides by mid-season and definately next year, Niese won;t even have a spot in the rotation. On a contender he's a 4 or 5 starter.

Frank Tangorra
Frank Tangorra

Jimmy you took the words out of my mouth. I would move Niese at the deadline and get a SS.

@Jimmy  Niese is our only lefty we need ONE of those…otherwise I would be on-board

@Chad Michael  I hope he turns it around to, so he becomes marketable, and we can finally rid ourselves of him.

Starz31
Starz31

@Chad Michael  I agree. This can help give him some breathing room early on. But still has a whole month to go to prove he can hit consistently. Still, gotta be pleased with the start.

You guys have got to be kidding.you think some team is going to trade for a pitcher who missed 2months last season with a shoulder problem and is complaining of shoulder pain 1week into ST.Niese has ZERO trade value.NONE,let alone for a quality SS prospect. Think about it.

Jimmy
Jimmy

Frank, you don't like any of the options out there now? I know the crop of SS at the deadline looks enticing, but I'd like to have a guy like Owings or Franklin (if he can play SS) to start the season. It would make Thor's promotion in June a lot more exciting if the Mets were close to contention. I know a lot of other stuff would have to go right (TDA, Lagares, First Base, CY). But if we have a good SS/Leadoff Hitter, and even half of these guys play well, I like this team's chances. Plus, I'm worried about Niese even making it to the trade deadline. He is a great pitcher, I would just sell high instead of risking it.

eric88
eric88

@rico @Jimmy  Why do you need a lefty, especially if the righthanders are better? Are you gonna sit a superior RHP?

jamets
jamets

We absolutely don't need a lefty in the rotation.  That shouldn't even be a consideration.

Jimmy
Jimmy

I don't know Rico. To me, Colon, Wheeler, Gee, Mejia, and Montero sounds just fine. Yeah, some teams in our division are Lefty-heavy, but I'd go to war with those 5 guys no matter who's at the plate. Especially if we have a SS that can lead off. No?

tierlifer

@Steven Matregrano  Simply amazing that people are already critiquing d'Arnaud based on not only one game, but the FIRST game of ST.  I guess the double was overlooked.

hankypanky
hankypanky

I didn't see the whole game but I saw a bad throw to second that was way off and a passed ball which may or may not have been his fault. Passed balls were his trademark last season, and I hope he outgrows this stage of his game. I've been watching baseball since the Dodgers played at Ebbets Field, and catchers usually show their stuff early. With his history of injuries, it's hard to tell what we are looking at.

eric88
eric88

@Jimmy  I'll be crying for .202 and .223. I don't think so.

Starz31
Starz31

@hankypanky  He just needs to stay healthy and he'll be fine. He has all the talent to be a very good catcher. Just needs at bats.
