Can someone please explain why it is all but decided that Familia will not be a starter on this team? I am imagining that he was really freaking effective last year?

There is hope!!! Maybe metsblog will increase the fan confidence rating to 150% now (still no explanation how that graph is tabulated).

I say Flores should be our everyday FIRST BASEMAN and IKE and DUDA should be gone. These guys have done  nothing in 3 years, enough, thats where Flores should be everyday.

However, TC is the wrong MGR. for this team. He will always play the Vets so Flores won't start, Legares won't start, Mehia won't start, we already know this. The only reason d'arneau will start is Sandy left him no other option.

Flores will be a star at some point. Some team will actually let him play everyday and he will take off. These effing stupid mets wont win 80 games this year if they sold their souls to the devil. Give Flores the starting SS job and be done with it. I cannot believe that this AAAA team is actually debating who should play SS. If he makes 30 errors out there this year....who gives a %^%^?

Glad to see familia is dominating I'm sure the fans in vegas will be pleased watching him work

What do you all think as about a trade for Cabrera SS, with us giving up Duda, Fullmer, and Flores. It would only be a 1 Year rental then he turns FA. Duda, please take him, Fullmer, we are saturated with young arms so no problem. Flores is the problem. When Ike falls flat on his face again, I want Flores to take over 1B. Problem is, he is the main piece as Cleveland needs a 3rd baseman. I think we shouldn't do it and go for Franklin instead.

PLEASE....stop saying "innings of work". is it opposed to "innings of not work"? It's redundant and silly.

Would've been nice if I could've watched this game.

Reid is not helping his cause early this spring.   Edgin also looks like he is behind an 8 ball.  I predited he would not make the roster to begin with. Not a big fan of Edgin.

Good outing by Thor.  Andrew Brown continues to look like a guy that will make the roster off the bench.

Did Flores get any chances at SS?  I know he moved there in the 7th inning.

What the heck is up with Josh Edgin? The guy had 1 good month 2 years ago when he came up and ever since have been horrible!

Nice to ssee Andy Brown showing power and hustle.

No wonder the team likes him. It's early, and he's already become the target of the haters because Terry has faith in the kid.

was only able to listen to the game on and off...did Flores have any put outs at short? I heard he knocked down a ball on a tough play.

Familia and Syndergaard were the two studs of the day.

Vaughn is hitting the ball well as is puello so far I hope we can some how trade EYJR have puello in there platooning with Chris young. Lagares needs to be working leadoff or acquire someone who can

@Andy pretty sure its based off the poll he puts on the site every 2 weeks or so. "are you confident in the direction the team is headed"

@eric88  If the mets think Vaugn, Puello, Murphy or Wright could play first if Ike tanks, than maybe they should. I think Flores and maybe Duda have something, but for first base, you should be able to get decent production somehow, so to combine that with a productive shortstop, it could be fine.

If he bailed next year, it's rough, but maybe you've been competitive enough to raise ticket sails so a new, good short stop is attainable.

I think it would depend on whether the Mets would give him a qualifying offer if they can't sign him.Taht would give them an extra draft pick.I would not do it if they were going to let him walk after 1year. Franklin would likely cost Montero so I would look at Cabrera first.

By the way this was just a writer speculating on the trade it's not anything the teams are discussing

methead

@eric88  Why would we make that trade all that up to get  a player who is a free agent next year?  This team isnt ready to win and make the playoffs yet (or at least on paper) so why give up such players?

It's a common baseball expression. You hear it all the time. Silly nitpick.

@helloboy  yea, the go ahead single for the braves went by him. But according to Adam Rubin, it was a tough play (he said Reyes would not have made the play)

@Ricky Tan  Means nothing yet. I remember when a guy named Butch Huskey hit 9 HR in ST. Than sucked. We know that Josh has the right stuff.

@metsfan6 I do as well. Although I feel as though we should all pray it doesn't turn out to be... I don't even want to mention it I feel like I'll jinx it. All I'll say is Bill, Jason, and Paul. You're gonna have to figure out what I'm saying. If you're a Mets fan you'll understand.

@eric88 @yankeehater And ruin his psyche so much that he takes his defense to the plate with him and it ruins his offense too? Good thinking.

@methead @eric88  Who are we giving up? Duda might not even make the club and is a horrible position player. Fullmer is years away. There are tons of mediocre players like Flores around. He hit .211 last year. I mean, I wouldnt give him away, but this seems like a small price for Cabrera who can hit. The problem is his salary. I don't think the mets want to pay.

Zac Tindall
Zac Tindall

Cabrera is 28 if he agrees to extend you damn right you do this trade

@Eric Koeller @helloboy  He made a really nice play early on in the game. It was a tough ball up the middle and he got to it and made a nice throw.

@Richard Alicea Are you sure? Puello still has some things to work on in AAA. He's still prone to swinging at Sliders in the Dirt. At the MLB level that could be QUICKLY exposed.

But it would give them breaks when one is off track

Yeah, I remember Huskey's great ST show. It got so that everyone stopped and watched whenever he came up to bat. So much for ST.

Good point. I don't understand the rush to exploit Flores playing unfamiliar positions. It can destroy him.

gloveman

@ifti99 @methead @eric88  He hit .211 as a 21 year old in the majors playing on two sprained ankles. Why don't we give him a real shot. And how many RBI's did he have in his small and hobbled preview? Seems he did pretty well in that regard. Calling him mediocre shows you to be a bit short sighted ifti!!

Mark Kelly
Mark Kelly

@Zac Tindall what are you going to get for EYJ? Lagaras needs to hit 8th until he shows ability to get on base.

Vaughn couldn't hit AA so take his hot 2-3 games with a grain of salt.

Hard throwing lefties are hard to find. It's the 2nd week of ST..Chillax it's 5 month season not including ST. Baseball is a marathon not a sprint.

I would recommend not losing your minds over everything and anything until the METS are 7 games out of first place.

You want vent anger go to the Knicks blog where it's mandatory

@tommets @The Feels@Craig Gandolph@Ricky TanWell when your manager consistently puts you out there against right handed hitters when your clearly a LOOGY your going to look pretty poor.

Not that i think he's anything worth holding onto, but he's clearly a LOOGY.
