Sound Smart: 7 things to know before the Mets face the Phillies

The Mets and Phillies begin a five-game series in Philadelphia that starts tonight and ends next Monday.

1) The Mets have won five consecutive road games against the Phillies.

2) Zack Wheeler has a 3.18 ERA in two career starts against the Phillies. He’ll make his first career start at Citizens Bank Park on Thursday.

3) Ryan Howard is hitting .417 with four HR, five doubles and 13 RBI during his current 12-game hitting streak against the Mets.

4) David Wright has 33 HR and 112 RBI in his career against the Phillies, the most home runs and RBI in his career against any opponent. His 19 home runs are the most by a visiting player in Citizens Bank Park history.

5) Wright and Daniel Murphy are both tied for second in the National League with 66 hits.

6) The Mets have scored 4.95 runs per game on the road, the most in the National League. The Mets play 25 of their next 33 games on the road.

7) The Mets are 2-20 when the score three runs or less. They are 22-8 when they score four or more runs.

That 7th point says it all. Pitching solid, offense weak.

25 out of our next 33 on the road? The games will be worth watching!

22-8 when they score 4 runs. I said this yesterday, and it is the biggest key for this team. Have to scratch out more runs, Collins. Hit and runs, squeezes, whatever it takes.

these next 8 games are very important....if the Mets want to be in the mix for 1st place they need to at least go 5-3....6-2 would obviously be better....but even 4-4 wont get it done....5 wins is the absolute minimum the Mets can achieve in these next 8 games if they want to have a shot to contend for first place in the near future....if they can be 2 or 3 games out of 1st by the all-star break the Mets might have something interesting going on this season

At least the Mets don't have to worry about their fans booing so their feelings won't get hurt and they'll hit better.

Normally 25 out of 33 on the road would be the kiss of death, but with the Mets, maybe not. However, what comes after that 33 games is what concerns me.

Hopefully those 7 things are not runs the Phillies score.

So let me get this straight! The more runs a team scores the more they win! That's a new idea. Its not how many home runs you hit but how many runs you score.

Snore... if I had a dollar for every time I read on this blog that "these next 8 games will really show what this team is made of" I'd be able to retire!

The Phillies are thinking the same thing.

@William Kelley Not necessarily. It doesn't matter how many runs you score, you have to keep the other team from scoring more than you do. Otherwise you don't win. Not sure if the Mets org understands this... :-)

And in Chicago. No reason to think about him anymore.
