Zack Wheeler

Sound Smart: Four things to know before tonight’s Mets-D-Backs game

1) The Mets have won the last two season series with the D-Backs. However, since 2009, the Mets are 5-11 at Chase Field.

2) Dating back to last season, Zack Wheeler has allowed 11 runs in 16.0 innings spanning three starts.

3) Juan Lagares has a hit in eight straight games, during which he’s batting .313. Lagares has at least one hit in 11 of the 12 games he’s played this season.

4) Ike Davis, Daniel Murphy and David Wright are a combined 7 for 20 with four home runs against D-Backs RHP Josh Collmenter, who will start for Arizona on Monday.

Zach Wheeler needs to show Met fans why we traded for such a highly touted pitching prospect.

In AZ tonight after attending all 3 in Cali, there is no way Grandy should be batting clean-up.  At best put him 6th or just swap with Lagares. The # 4 hitter needs high slugging and/or BA, right now we have neither. If Grandy starts hitting move him back down.

So then does Ike start? He has hit well in AZ.

The Mets will never see .500 again this season.

Dear Metsblog -- "sounding smart" does not include cherry-picking small sample-size stats in order to fill blank space on a Web page.

Catching the D-Backs at the right time, Wheeler is due for a good start, hitter friendly environment for some of our slumping bats....hopefully this series goes our way.

@Chris Lyons Well this makes sense, Lagares has been playing well but could be a flash in the pan. We have to get Chris Young 600 At bats that's priority one, next see if EY can leadoff, and grandy is an all star OF.

Juan Lagares brings nothing to the table. No arm, no defense, showing no improvement at the plate. Give me the Youngs and GRanderson.

F you SA and TC

@rodd THE DUDE needs a break from his outstanding power surge. IKE is clearly destined to get back to his "30 home run form". That was NO flash in the pan

@Albert E Lewis I'm not worried about Wheeler, I don't think he should be an untouchable trade chip though. He's not going to do what Harvey did the first half of last season.  That just never happens. Hopefully we see steady improvement from Zack throughout the season were either A) He could be a centerpiece for a legit bat we need or 2) Be counted on to be the #2/3/4 guy next year. We will be stacked.

Just stay healthy everyone

Correction: numbers 1 and 2 don't make sense or have anything to do with this game

The mets have had success against Collmenter and ARI is hitter friendly. Id say let Grandy get one more game at cleanup, because I feel like he might hit a HR tonight.

@completely  I know, right? These randomly chosen stats are getting out of hand.

JUST AN EDUCATED BB FAN.

@Chris Lyons Team BA speaks for itself. This coacing staff is leaving a brutal trail of ruined careers that probably would have found success in real organizations. SA has been a bad GM, enough with the prospect hype we have made zero progress in four years

-We counted on Ike Davis to be our cleanup man and big run producer WAY WAY WAY too soon and it backfired big time. Mentally he has been a mess the last 3 years.

-Juan Lagares losing time to three guys hes better than??

-Throwing Ruben Tejada to the Wolves after doing nothing but chastising him and leaving him in AAA all last summer while we got to see Omar f'ing Quintanilla everyday. (Probably a move to save some pennies down the line btw)

I'm losing my patience with this franchise fast. Fire SA and TC if we are 10 out before May ends.

@eric88  Where is an educated BB fan? I don't see one.
