Juan Lagares 1 (Baron)

Sound Smart: Four things to know before tonight’s Mets-Braves game

1) The Mets has tossed 12 straight scoreless innings dating back to Sunday.

2) Zack Wheeler is 3-0 with a 2.89 ERA in three starts against the Braves in his career.

3) Juan Lagares has a hit in six of seven games this season, during which he’s batting .333 with a .393 OBP.

4) The Mets are 1-3 when their bullpen lets up a run.

So I'm going to sound smart by saying, "The Mets has tossed......."

Really?

I has finally learned how to sound smart by reading MetsBlog!

5) The Mets will strike out a minimum of 10 times.

Dear Metsblog, please reconsider the use of the pithy term "Sound Smart." I know you're going for high-impact journalism here, but that title just doesn't really sound smart. Thanks...

Legares is the real deal. End of story.

let's hope the braves are first pitch swinging tonight so wheeler's pitch count could remain low...he should clearly challenge each hitter not named freeman...mets need to work the counts against Santana since he will be on a pitch count tonight...hopefully they get into that bullpen by the 6th inning...I like this matchup for the mets, but as usual the bullpen terrifies me

Title of the post = "Sound Smart"

First sentence of the post has a glaring grammar mistake in it (should be the Mets HAVE not has)

Oh the irony...

@nwmets Completely agree.  We're all coming here because we love the Mets, obviously, but when they do these posts that put themselves on intellectual pedestals, it's time to reevaluate.

Just a complete turn-off.

@nwmets  The article should be "things to watch for," or "plotlines," such as will the scoreless streak continue, will David break out of his slump, etc., will Wheeler continue his dominance of the Braves, given that he is from Georgia?

Nobody wants to hear us smartly talking about the Mets.  We want to know what we should be looking for.

@thjopr6986  I don't know why there was any thought otherwise.  If Lagares can even be league average - slightly below league average offensively... He'd be starting on most teams.  If he's capable of more than league average... he's a perennial all-star.  Simple fact is, it should never have even been a discussion.  Especially on a team that depends on its pitching.  (AKA needs strong defense behind it.)

@Brian Lomasky

Sound smart, by making a grammatical error three words in. Classic Metsblog. Ya gotta just laugh.

@DMMP He's looked great the first 7 games at the plate, but we need to see much more before we can even have a clue if he can put up league average numbers at the position.

@BringBackDaveTelghe @DMMP  There has been every indication that he has the drive and work ethic (and potential) to do at least that.  And so far this season has shown just that.   Again, I will say it now... And if I'm wrong I'll be the first to admit it. But I was saying it all offseason.  I think Lagares is going to surprise a LOT of people with his bat in the long run.
