Travis d'Arnaud swings

Sound Smart: 5 things to know before tonight’s Mets-Phillies game

The Mets begin a three-city, nine-game road trip tonight. They are 6-3 on the road this year after going 41-40 away from Citi Field last year.

Travis d’Arnaud started the season 0-for-16, but is batting .364 during his last seven games, including three multi-hit games.

The Mets have nine comeback wins, which are most in the National League.

Jon Niese starts for the Mets tonight. He is 3-2 with a 2.14 ERA in 46.1 innings the last two years against the Phillies.

Daniel Murphy is batting .349 with five HR in 63 at bats against Cole Hamels, who starts for the Phillies tonight.

I can't believe I posted about 6 hours ago on here about the very obvious error about Daniel Murphy's numbers against Hamels, wen it should be David Wright's name there, and yet despite a flurry of comments agreeing with how egregious and easy to fix the error is, there has been no change. I like this blog for its news and quick information, but I would really expect that an error like that, which is a pretty large one, to be fixed over 6 hours after I point it out. I don't get how a product like this blog, which has the resources to make it great due to its affiliation with SNY, doesn't care enough to make this a high-quality blog for Mets fans. I get that there is a small staff, and I get time constraints and being busy, but presenting things accurately is just as important as presenting things quickly, if not more so. As I said, I really like this blog, and I hope some improvements continue to be made because you have something really good going here that has a legitimate chance to be something much, much greater.

Wright will have a 2 homer game on this trip to Philly and Coors. It's a guarantee

DW has four, that's 4 extra base hits in 25 games. That's horrendous.

I'm wondering if they will even play tonight....the weather is looking real bad.  I noticed  that it is 73 degrees just outside of Pittsburgh and 44 just outside of Philly.  Spring is more fickle than a Mets fan!

So all we need is the Wilpons to make some stupid, bigoted, racist comments and this franchise will turn around overnight

I can't stand terry Collins when is going to understand that ey is a bench player and not a starter on a contender

*David Wright is batting .349 with 5 HR in 63 ABs against Cole Hamels. I'm not sure there's any single pitcher Murphy has 5 HR against. Murphy's #'s against Hamels are solid though too. 12 for 34 with a homer and two doubles.

Anyone else read the article by Adam Rubin that said the mets paid a moving company to move Lucas Duda's stuff into a new apartment? I found that hilarious.

the philli pitcher is left handed, will tc use someone else than dida?

It's actually 5 things to know, not 6. Guess I am smarter than you!

Rumor has it the Phillies players are scared to face the red-hot Mets tonight!

@eric88  Which is tied for third highest on the club.  So now your negative again.???

We don't need the Wilpons. We have enough haters on this blog, I'm afraid.

@John Ramos  he's statistically been the most valuable player on the team so far this year. I was all for dumping him once Lagares got back, but as it stands, the guy has earned some playing time.

@bingmets  i think it's hilarious that Duda has a knock-off Breitling

Nothing like bashing our Captain when the team is winning more than expected to start the season...what is the point of this post? Just to be negative against the lone offensive bright spot on our team for the last 5 years? Not to mention a good dude who has been loyal to the franchise and its fans...Pathetic = look in the mirror...

Jeez man. You are the seriously pathetic one. It is common knowledge the ball travels better in the warmer weather, which is what he was alluding to and yes he acknowledged that it will be easier to hit homers where they are headed to play next . David is doing just fine.

As long as the team keeps up the 14-11 pace of wins, he can captain this team as long as he wants.

@7up17_2go  Let me know when the chicks start wearing Mets hates. Then you know the Mets are popular.

Third highest on the worst hitting club in the league, and you deem that a positive!

eric88

Negative, what ever do you mean. Just pointing out a stat. Your childish again. This is a blog, not a lollipop site. Negative is part of it. Don't get your feelings hurt.

That's why you don't evaluate WAR over a 3 week period. He's a terrible hitter, and a terrible lead off man who has flukishly gotten on base through the early part of the season. I see nothing different then the guy who was the 6th worst in wOBA last year.

metsjetsdu

@mikesml  he has no next to no playing time because he sucks. The guy belongs in AAA permanently

@rodd  well looks like Satin is starting - i stand corrected.  i know TC loves the RvL matchups, but Satin doesn't look the same as he did last year... or, the pitchers have adjusted on him.. either way, let's see what he can do tonight.

@eric88

it's "horrendous" ....

WHO the F cares if he has 4 xtra base hits, He'll probably finish the yr right around his avg... career wise.

He's actually making some good contact and getting on base...  not worried at all

BringBackDaveTelghe
BringBackDaveTelghe

You're right, but there's no indication he can do that on any level besides blind wishing it to happen.

@BringBackDaveTelghe   I think Young can put up a .340-.350 OBP, and if he does that he is absolutely an everyday player.

jamets

Weird loyalty?  He has had 19 plate appearances this season.   I'm not a fan etiher, but you really think giving a guy 19 pa's shows unusual loyalty?

BringBackDaveTelghe
BringBackDaveTelghe

@Michael Jacoutot @rodd He wasn't good to begin with..The weird loyalty they are showing this guy is bizarre.  At what point does he have to show something in his lefty starts?

jamets
jamets

@7up17_2go @Michael Jacoutot@rodd  Cambell's minor league track record is not even as good as Satin's.  And he's never hit more than 10 HR in a season.  Don't be fooled by a 27 year old putting up good numbers in the PCL.

7up17_2go
7up17_2go

@Michael Jacoutot @7up17_2go @rodd  Why not?  He has hit well at every level.  He was a stud in college, Single A, AA, and now AAA.  The other guys at those levels are trying to win as well.  He looked outstanding in ST and although 27, he can really rake.  Lets give him a shot.  Can't be any worse than Satin!,

Michael Jacoutot
Michael Jacoutot

@7up17_2go @Michael Jacoutot @rodd  he's not on the big-league roster for a reason - the FO believes he doesn't have the capacity to hit ML pitching better than Duda.  We cannot compare what a AAA or AA hitter does and expect it will translate into the bigs.  The level change between what is being thrown to Campbell and the "stuff" Duda sees on a daily basis is not in the same stratosphere.

I can appreciate EC's hot bat, but cannot believe it will translate against Cliff Lee, Cole Hamels, et al.

@nwmets @mrgee  Ha that's a fair point! Will I edit it, though? Heck no. This is Metsblog!
