Sound Smart: 6 things to know before tonight’s Mets-Marlins game

1) NL East teams are all within 1.5 games of one another, and they are all over .500.

2) The Mets are 14-2 when they give up three runs or less.

3) The Marlins have won five of their last six games, during which they’re averaging 6.8 runs per game and slugging .609 as a team.

4) Juan Lagares has a 13-game hitting streak, the longest of his career. He’s collected multiple hits in seven of 17 games this season.

5) Curtis Granderson is 7-for-19 (.368) during his last five games.

6) Marlins OF Giancarlo Stanton leads the league with seven home runs and 29 RBI at home.

Its going to be a longggggggggggggggggg season - 2 out of three losses in the last two games and I credit both loses to Terry Collins - time for him to leave.

This is Jeff Fredo Wilpon's team. Sound Smart?

eric young jr has to get more playing time but not at the expense of lagares. eric young can really manufacture runs and jumpstarted our teams in multiple wins early in ballgames. i understand everyone in the outfield is hitting but eric young has to get playing time some how, just sayin

The Mets and the fans seemed to be in high spirits heading into Colorado but after that tough series the love hate relationship that seems to change inning by inning continues.  It certainly is a tough road trip for the Mets, facing two teams that seem unbeatable at home for the moment.  It would be great to see the team come out and get a win in the first game of the series against Miami.  Even if it is the only win they walk away with during the series it would be a sigh of relief for everyone to ensure that the Mets won't be swept by a divisional rival that the Mets could be neck and neck with all season long.  Gee was critical in stopping the bleeding and Niese needs to come up with another big outing tonight to ensure that the road trip doesn't get any worse.

TC is a moron no Lagares and no CY tonight

Tonight should be a fun to watch game. Abreu has looked good with the bat and runs the bases better than Duda and Satin, So, how about starting Abreu at 1B and see how it goes. We got to try everything to produce runs. Defense has not been an issue this season.
 Lets Go Mets!

I don't mind resting Lagares, especially after the hammy. But I'm not sure I can make it through the rest of the year with Valverde, Farmsworth and Familia in the bullpen. On a related note, ya' gotta lover Murphy's energy but he may very well be a worse base-runner than Reyes and Pagan (two notorious flakes) combined.

Don't look now, but the mets have the same record as the Yankees.

It feels good not hearing the Yankee fans lately

Abreu should be working out at first base, makes more sense to sneak him in the lineup there than in the outfield. And it just doesn't make a lot of sense to get Lagares and Young out of the lineup when the offense was starting to roll. Unless Eovaldi has crazy lefty-righty splits. That's the only thing I can think of. And I just looked it up. Lefties hitting over .330 with an .830 OPS against Eovaldi while righties are hitting .127 or something with a .333 OPS (this is from memory but it's pretty close). So there's your answer.

I get days off, but its may in a critical series against a division opponent, who is as hot as can be at home.. Now I'm not saying EY and Abreu can't get it done, as we all know EY's speed and Abreu always gives a professional at bat, but in this huge ballpark I would rather have left our best defensive and currently offensive outfield out there..  but hey will see what happens

13 game hit streal for lagaras. Batting good leadoff. Yup TC lets cool him down n ride the bench. FIRE THIS CLOWN!

16-14 with that lineup really isn't bad.   I get the frustration with TC but he is fine for this club -- there's still not enough talent there to judge whether another manager would make a big difference.  He's not exactly resting Murderer's Row today.

what terry colins are doing? Lagares can´t be out of the lineup. Lagares is the mets best player right now. omg

No Lagares OR Chris Young!?!?!?! Makes sense, why play two of the HOTTEST bats we have in the lineup currently!! NL MANAGER OF THE YEAR IS DEFINITELY GOING TO BE COLLINS!! What a MORON!

@Zac Tindall  the Idea is to rest someone when they are going poorly. This proves they are tired Terr rests hot hitters and benches those that have good games. Eric Young is a terrible ball player!

@kefhrny17 Yeah Marlins have best home record in baseball at 14-5. That's pretty funny since it's as quiet as a library in that ugly dome more often than not.

@MetsFan1962 Don't know if Abreu has ever played first, but in my post below, I said the same thing. At the very least, he should start to get some reps over there to increase his versatility and give Collins another way to get him in the lineup. I think Abreu could be pretty useful getting three starts or so a week in addition to his pinch hitting duties. He has hit a lot of balls hard since coming up, some just haven't found holes. And he's always a tough at bat.

@Kenneth Meltsner Familia has actually looked much better lately. Throwing more strikes. That homer to Morneau yesterday wasn't a bad pitch. A hot hitter just went down and golfed it out. Love Familia's arm.

Steven Glansberg

@Chris Miller  Regardless of the bats, it's a huge outfield and you want your best defensive outfield out there.. Really hope nothing gets hit to abreu

@Andrew Sodergren Not sure what Loria was thinking when he moved the club to Miami. Baseball is not going to fill Marlin's Park. I guess we will see if the Marlins winning record at home makes their fans come-out to the park and prove me wrong.

MetsFan1962

@Andrew Sodergren Agree.... Abreu still has some gas left in the tank. I rather see him in the game than Satin, that's for sure.

@nwmets but Lagares is playing very well right now, i just think he needs to be a everyday player.

@Steven Glansberg @Chris Miller I wonder if there was this much bellyaching on the days Bobby V gave Piazza a day off?

The guy is coming off a hammy injury.  It's wise to give him a blow here and there.  If he played him everyday, and he pulled a hammy again, the same people would be complaining about TC playing him TOO much.

@Steven Glansberg It didn't -- it's a placebo. :-)

@Steven Glansberg @MetsFan1962@Andrew SodergrenThey will draw decent crowds when Fernandez pitches, but unless the Marlins are in contention in September, no one really goes to that park. They basically have to give tickets away and they have a lot of great food/drink packages. Still they can't draw. I live in Florida and went to Mets-Marlins games all the time in the old park. Sure it was a football stadium and wasn't that nice of a park, but the location was great, basically between Fort Lauderdale and Miami, with great parking and easy highway access. I won't go to the new stadium because it's in a bad area with terrible parking. Loria fleeced the city of Miami and then promised he'd spend money on the team. What a joke. I hate the Wilpons with a passion, but this guy is ten times worse.

@Joe Wenzel Mets also lost a game in the vast Miami outfield last year because Collin Cowgill was in center. Lagares' defense is so valuable.

Steven Glansberg

@Michael Frias @Steven Glansberg @Chris Miller  A.) catchers getting days off is a different story B.) its May, and the mets handled lagares with kid gloves this entire time cause the outfield was producing and it was early.. I get you want to protect him but he's a young kid, he should be able to play 160 games a year no problem.. And keith said it and I agree, I don't think resting in april and may is extremely helpful, the players aren't as taxed as later in the season when its hot and the dog days of summer.. I  never blame an injury on a manager, especially a hammie cause those are completely random in nature and could go unexpectedly
