Bartolo Colon 4

Sound Smart: 6 things to know before tonight’s Mets-DBacks game

The Mets have won five in a row against the D-Backs, who are 18-31 on the year.

The Mets pitchers allowed just two runs during an 18-inning stretch while sweeping a three-game series at Arizona from April 14-16.

Bartolo Colon has a 2.93 ERA during his four wins, and a 7.58 ERA in his five losses. He is coming off his best performances of the season, allowing two runs and five hits in eight innings against the Nationals. Colon turns 41 on Saturday.

David Wright has 30 hits this month, tied for the most in the NL with Yasiel Puig of the Dodgers.

Curtis Granderson is 7 for 16 (.438) with four extra-base hits in the last four games.

The Mets are third in the National League with 152 walks. Granderson leads the team with 19 walks.

I expect the Mets to sweep this series from a very bad Arizona team and against a Goldschmidt that we own. Let's get the season back. Interesting stretch beginning with 14 straight games against teams that are actually worse than us, D-backs, Pirates, Phillies and the Cubs. If they go 10 and 4 they will be two games over .500 and maybe Syndergaard coming up. Time for a big splash trade and contention! Let's go Mets!

Colon DOES NOT have four wins ... he is 3-5 ... how hard is it to get basic facts right?

If David Wright is tied for the most hits in the NL in May, why does it feel so much like he's struggling?

I think we all knew Terry would sit Campbell. We'll be watching this dance for the next several months.

Just read in the Post that Wright has decided to swing earlier in the count. Sounds like he and Grandy decided to stir things up. Grandy showed some guys home run hitting drill from Yankees and Wright giving up on hunting strikes. It's all good and boy is it time!

Also centeno is catching which baffles me, he is so bad behind the plate, I'd rather have recker every time

Hoping tonight's line up again includes young players but no players named Young.

Lets put soup behind the dish, they say he's a utility man, lets really get this party started.

I would love to see us in the playoffs this year but lets be serious this might be a 70 win team.

It's ironic that anything associated with the Mets is called sound smart

@Leif Granlind These are big league ballclubs.  Expecting a sweep is setting yourself up for disappointment.  Especially since the Mets are only 3.5 games better than them.

"Time for a big splash trade"? Who do you have in mind? Syndergaard ? Niese and Gee will be traded because they are salary dumps, but they might not be enough. The final question is: for who? A real big bopper or some middle-of- the road player which will be more likely and which we do not need.

@Leif Granlind Speaking of the Pirates, I wonder if there's anyone who thinks Davis won't go deep against the Mets at Citi. How mamy times have we seen it this year alone, Byrd, Cowgill, & Turner.

@gregf They like to post posts that make themselves sound smart, then fill it with informational that is continually wrong.

@Thomas McKeever He's Derek Jeter-ish.  (picture Jeets circa 1995)  Tall, lanky, athletic but not quick nor great range.  As he gains confidence he'll look more fluid.  As long as he hits the ball further than 250ft, TC (and all the fans here) will put up with whatever he does on D.

He 's been okay. Makes the routine plays. Had a problem playing alongside Murphy the other night with a mental lapse, but seems to be growing into his role. Has limited range but may learn to compensate.

@nwmets Because most fans are obsessed with HRs/power numbers and his are down.  Truth be told we only need more doubles from him now.  When the heat vapors finally arrive in Queens, the HRs will come (18-20 of them).  But last night the Mets didn't beat Greinke on HRs.

Wright hasn't been clutch, pure and simple.

Because he isn't hitting for power probably or because if he doesn't get runners in, we all feel like no one will. Actually the only RISP stat that is bad is the one with 2 outs- the others are really good. Think we have to remember he is now a 31 year old who has had two abdominal strains, stress fracture in his back and a hamstring issue. Have to imagine the cold and rain aren't exactly easy for him. I had fractured ankle years ago and it stiffens/barks in weather like this. Think that might actually account for some of his short throws. Here's hoping for a quick start to summer!

@Wayno they have promises to fulfill, regardless of production - Soup's been swinging well, and had a game saving play last night, it wouldn't make sense to play him.

Joc Pederson. The Dodgers have a plethora of OFs, and could use SP and a 2B. I am not sure if they would do it though because they were trying to use him as a centerpiece for David Price.

Maybe if you throw in Montero in there we could get something in return.

Maybe they give him an IBB to really stir up peoples mind...

Wishful thinking this site is. Although I can't pry my self away from it because mets should be a good team on paper.

Anybody want to look something up??

Look at mets 2000 team lineup stat what are mets missing. Let me know

gregf

@hankypanky  Agreed ... he has soft hands and makes the plays, even a couple of nice ones ... if they let him relax he'll start driving the ball some, imho ... he's already had about a month's worth of Tejada's bat production!

@Cheryl Ann  He also got married.  Maybe it is "Samson and Delilah Syndrome" .

Cheryl Ann

Yes. I don't think any of the rookies or guys fighting for their jobs could afford to break ranks, but with Wright/Grandy (two proven veterans) showing the way, everyone else feels more comfortable following. Remember the young guys are used to having real "money value" associated with the goofy philosophy- they needed the Captain and Grandy to make it OK to be aggressive. Like I said, it's all good and it's about time!

Cheryl Ann

I hear you but they've been together for years- since 2007 I think. Getting married just made it official. LOL

@Cheryl Ann  I know this sounds kind of crude but I am trying to think out of the Box so to speak.  LOL
