Sound Smart: 4 things to know about Mets-Yankees before tonight’s game

The Mets and Yankees play Monday and Tuesday at Yankee Stadium, Wednesday and Thursday at Citi Field.

1) The Mets outscored the Yankees, 16-7, winning all four games between the two teams last season. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, it was first time in team history that the Mets swept a season series of four-or-more games from any opponent.

2) The Mets are 5-9 at the new Yankee Stadium.

3) In 94 regular season games, the Mets are 40-54 against the Yankees. They are 3-8-6 in all-time season series against the Yankees.

4) There have been 121 players that have played for both the Mets and the Yankees, including current players Bartolo Colon, Curtis Granderson, Kyle Farnsworth, Bobby Abreu and Carlos Beltran.

How to sound smart: Know that Uncle Saul want to unload his Mets shares, according to the NY Times and Michael S. Schmidt (no relation to Michael Jack Schmidt):

"Saul B. Katz, who owns a majority share of the Mets in a partnership with his brother-in-law and business partner, Fred Wilpon, has expressed a desire to sell his portion of the team because he has grown tired of spending millions to prop it up, according to several people in baseball briefed on the matter."

"But Katz has been hesitant to sell because it could result in Wilpon’s no longer maintaining majority control, according to the people familiar with Katz’s situation. This has created a situation in which Katz has been locked into subsidizing part of the team’s losses in an effort to protect Wilpon, who considers the team a family heirloom and wants his son Jeff to control it for years to come."

I'm a little worried about Colon in yankee stadium. OK, a lot worried.

SOUND SMART:  It's the Yankees.  I hate the Yankees.

Sound Smart: The Mets are 17-19 in games started after March 30.

Do I sound smart? 'Cause that's a more interesting stat than any of the other meaningless stats you listed here...

I think Alderson can be doing better and TC is a so-so manager but the real reason this team isn't very good is the Wilpons.

Odds on Tanaka's first no-hitter coming this week?

The lineup should be (non AL):

1. EY 2nd

2. Lagares CF

3. Murph 1st

4. Wright 3rd

5. Grandy RF

6. Chris Young LF

7. Flores SS

8. D'Arnaud C

EY needs to be in this lineup, and if CY needs to be playing cause of power potential and money reasons then sorry duda, you're the odd man out

Is there any way the Mets avoid a sweep in this subway series? Many Yankee fans in my parish have informed me that a sweep is inevitable, and that the Mets have no chance to win even one game in this 4 game subway series.

Please tell me we walk away with at least one win, please, please...

I see the issue.  This counts the season series, I was counting the individual series.

It was so great before the Subway series started. We'd go boy, if the mets ever played the yankees heads up, no matter the talent, the mets would win, because the yankees suck. Well now even if the mets win, it's still mostly some scam for the Wilpons to make a few bucks off Yankee fans, and probably re-invest in their boss, the Stienbrenner's company.

@nolrog I believe they only played 3 games against each other in 97 and '98. It was 6 games every year after that until they went to 4 games last year.

Yup.  When I read the post, I thought it was individual series, which had me confused.  I went back and re-read it and realized they were talking about season series.

You are correct. Also, the mets have only won the season series twice, '08 and last year.
