Earlier today on WFAN, host Mike Francesa he has been told – as of right now – the Mets do not intend to have Oliver Perez or Luis Castillo on the Opening Day roster.
In addition, Mike Silva from NY Baseball Digest just tweeted:
There is something weird going on, actually, since, from what I can gather, the team will soon announce a few different signings, mostly people to minor-league deals with invites to Spring Training, such as Scott Hairston, like Ted Berg mentioned earlier today. These should not impact the 40-man roster, short of Chris Young, who is said to have signed a one-year deal worth around $1.5 million. Nevertheless, transactions will need to occur, if not now then in a month from now… so, the clock is clearly ticketing on Ollie and Castillo, to say the least.
