In a post to Twitter, Jon Heyman of CBS Sports says “no less than seven teams have interest in Mike Pelfrey.”
The Mets non-tendered Pelfrey on Friday.
While Terry Collins said at the end of the year he could see Pelfrey back as both a starter and reliever, Pelfrey told Adam Rubin of ESPN New York he wants to start, and he is not interested in returning as an “extra guy.”
Pelfrey underwent Tommy John Surgery on May 1, but recently told Rubin he expects to be ready for Opening Day.
Michael Baron, MetsBlog.com:Pelfrey is represented by Scott Boras, and so I expect he will be able to get Pelfrey a big league deal somewhere. I still wonder if Pelfrey will find the role he seeks considering he had Tommy John Surgery just seven months ago. The recovery from that injury typically takes 12 months or more, so any team signing him can’t realistically expect him to be in the mix right from the start. I would expect him to be ready sometime in May, and if the Mets deal a starting pitcher, he could ultimately be a fit in their rotation.
