Santana limited to about 90 pitches in return

According to WFUV’s Steve Simineri, Terry Collins will limit Johan Santana to approximately 90 pitches when Santana makes his return from the DL tomorrow night.

This will be Santana’s first start since July 20 when he gave up six runs in three innings of work against the Dodgers. Santana was placed on the DL the next day so that he could recover from an ankle injury that he had sustained in a start against the Cubs before the All-Star Break.

Santana threw 38 pitches in a rehab game with Single-A Brooklyn on August 5. He allowed one hit, one walk and three strikeouts in his three scoreless innings of work. Afterward, Santana went to the bullpen and pitched three simulated innings to bring his pitch count up to 90.
