Sandy Alderson told Jim Duquette and Jim Bowden on SiriusXM Radio that Travis d’Arnaud and Zack Wheeler are close to big league ready.
“D’Arnaud has not played since last June because of an injury, but we think he’s very close. We think Wheeler’s close. … I think it’s reasonable to expect that our fans will see one or both of them some time in the season, if not early in the season.”
Alderson said Wheeler and d’Arnaud are no further away from the big leagues than Matt Harvey was at this time last season, with Wheeler possibly ahead of where Harvey was one year ago.

Once again, it sounded like neither will make the club out of camp, and that’s perfectly fine. As I said yesterday about Wheeler, there is no reason to accelerate their free agency, and both could use a little extra seasoning together at Las Vegas. That doesn’t mean one or both of them won’t be up quickly, especially if there’s an injury in the rotation, or someone needs to skip a start, and so on. But at the very least, I can’t envision either will be promoted under any circumstances until late April, at the earliest.
