Rubin: Moises Alou not a candidate for 1B coach

Last night, SNY’s Kevin Burkhardt said on Mets Hot Stove that Moises Alou is being considered for the team’s first base coach, a postion that had been previously linked to Mookie Wilson.

However, today, Adam Rubin of ESPN New York said Alou is not a candidate at this point, according to a team source.

The day Terry Collins was hired, I heard first base coach would be offered to Mookie, but no such announcement has been made.

For what it’s worth, the more and more I talk to people, and the more I read other reports, like I said yesterday, I’m still betting the bench coach will be Ken Oberkfell, because he’s younger and less-intense than Collins, he’s known for having played the game ‘the right way,’ he has experience communicating with younger players, he’s from their system, and guys like Jose Reyes, David Wright, Carlos Beltran and others are already familiar with him (be it from the minor leagues, or Obie’s time in the Mets dugout a few years ago).
