According to Adam Rubin of ESPN New York, the Mets will re-sign INF Omar Quintanilla to a Minor League contract with an invite to Spring Training.
In 29 games for the Mets in 2012, Quintanilla hit .257 with five doubles, one home run and four RBI in 70 at-bats.
Quintanilla had just one at-bat in two appearances in July, was designated for assignment on July 17, and was traded to the Orioles on July 20.
Michael Baron, ContributorQuintanilla did a nice job for the Mets last year. He was promoted to the big leagues after the injury bug hit the Mets hard in May, and he fielded his position well and came up with some big hits before he became starved for playing time in July. The Mets are unlikely to re-sign Ronny Cedeno (he reportedly is looking for a starting job elsewhere), and so Quintanilla might have a pretty good chance to make the team out of camp as a backup infielder.
