Ruben Tejada 14 (Baron)

Ruben Tejada could end up part-time at 2B, SS

Ruben Tejada would be considered more of a part-time player, getting time at both middle infield positions, in the event the Mets acquire a potential starting shortstop, Sandy Alderson acknowledged while talking to reporters on Monday in Orlando.

Yesterday, Alderson said Tejada could still end up the team’s primary shortstop, depending on how the rest of the off season plays out.

“He’s going to have to play good defense and get on base,” Alderson said Sunday about Tejada. “He doesn’t have the power potential that you’d like to see in players, so he’s going to have to do those things well that he has the capacity to do. That’s what we saw in him a couple of years ago. That’s not what we’ve seen over the last year or so.”

Matthew Cerrone, Lead Writer

Tejada is fascinating and controversial. I’ve gone back and forth on Tejada a million times since he joined the Mets. I went from thinking he was a smart, defensive-minded, middle-infield utility guy, to thinking he’s every-day shortstop, back to thinking he’s a utility player, to questioning whether he should even be on a roster, and back to thinking he can be a utility guy. I get the feeling I’m not alone, after reading some of these quotes from Alderson. I bet Tejada and his agents are watching the Hot Stove closely these days…

Please Matthew Cerone, please post Tejada's MiLB stats ... Until he morphs into a backup this year he will not be capable to have any roster spot on any playoff contender...

Ruben Tejada is a shortstop who cannot run, hit, field, or do anything this team needs. I just don't understand what the appeal has been with him from the very beginning. So he had one decent season. It does not change the fact that he is not even worthy of being on an MLB roster. If he had speed or was a good fielder to compensate for the fact that he can't hit would be one thing, but he just cant do anything. If I'm Alderson, I reach out to the Cubs to talk about Starlin Castro, because shortstop is not a luxury right now, it's a necessity. I would do Duda, Den Dekker, and a player to be named later for Starlin Castro and send Tejada back to little league.

if he gets his head out of his arse he could be a very good player like we seen in 2012

"And then I went back to thinking he dove into first base" (Cerrone)

Something is happening. I think they're getting a deal for a SS involving Murphy.

Would it be a crazy idea to move Wright to SS and let Flores play third? *ducking*

Wouldn't be having this conversation if Reyes was still on the team.

I think Tejada is better suited as a part time player.

He's a slower, weaker version of Ronny Cedeno.

I'm gonna take all of these posts as we are not bringing in anyone else. What a joke. Not one positive post since sandy got there. Why is Tejada getting yet another chance? So we are gonna have platoons at second first and shortstop? Gimme a break mets

@Robbie Heilberg You think that Duda, den Dekker and a PTBNL is going to get you Starlin Castro? Psh. It's going to cost you way more than that, my friend.

@Sam Choi Actually we would be having this exact conversation. Reyes misses 30% of his team's games, so Tejada would BE his backup.

@Victor Triguero What do you mean by "yet another chance"? He was basically the full-time SS in 2012 and he did a pretty decent job for someone who was only 22. He had a crappy first half of 2013 and was sent to the minors, and now everyone is screaming for his head on a platter. I don't get it...
