Reyes and Thole feel bad for Wright and Mets fans

Blue Jays SS Jose Reyes and C Josh Thole say they feel bad for David Wright, who continues to struggle through a rebuilding process in Queens, they told columnist Anthony Reiber this past weekend (Newsday, June 15).

“I was there from 2009 through 2012, and it was ‘wait till next year, wait till next year,'” said Thole. “The hardest thing in the baseball world, in my opinion, is to play in New York for the Mets. Everything is a story there.”

Reyes, Thole and the Blue Jays are 40-30 and in first place in the American League East.

“After a little while, you just want to win,” Reyes said. “It’s not about the money, because we are already set. We’ve got a contract and it’s now about winning. We’re not getting any younger, you know? What is he, 31? I’m 31. I want to win.”

When JOSH THOLE is happy he left your team you got troubles. JOSH THOLE feels bad for the Mets.

WORST owners in sports. I envy Clippers fans. Someone please follow WIlpon around with a recorder going. We need to get him on tape saying something racist.

Love it. Telling it like it is. Everything Reyes and Thole said is 100% true. This franchise is a joke.

It's a little sad to hear Jose talk about this, but the quotes from him were at least a little more subdude.  Thole?  It's questionable whether that guy is a major leaguer or ever will be.  The guy is lucky to even get an ML roster slot, let alone a voice from a reporter and I guess the only way he could get it was by bad-mouthing the Mets.  Hey, they both are right, but there is a difference between being right and leaving some things best unsaid.  In some ways, I'm glad that they are exposing the BS going on in the Mets organization, but mostly, especially Thole saying "the hardest thing...playing for the Mets".  Look, this guy hasn't earned the right even talk, has he?  Complaining about everything being a story.  Sounds like he wanted to be one.  Bush league.

Wright got duped, it seems, although, even though our team is awful, it can change at any time for the better - stranger things have happened.  What was horrible was what Alderson said.  He won't spend until the team is ready to contend?  How does that work?  How can the team contend if he doesn't spend the money to support a roster that is competitive?  Considering his abilities at picking talent, I guess he's referring to getting lucky or something.

Cant wait any longer if this team doesn't win 80 games next year they have lost all credibility...if im Wright.. I DEMAND A TRADE.

We've been told wit till next year for about six years now. Each year I find I care a little bit less .about  the team. We've been lied to over and over now I think I care about as much as the owners do. I check the scores the next day in the paper and say to myself, "Thank God I didn't waste my time watching that.

How's that for reaching rock bottom Sandy?

No doubt about it. The "wait till next year tune" is GETTING OLD" real fast and picking up speed!!! I'd love to take Sandy at his word, but he's produced nothing other than a tweaked 70 win ball club every year since he's got here. Just as bad as to the fans, is the Mets failure to give Wright any support or real promise for the future. If I were David, I'd threaten a trade request unless some serious moves are made prior to next spring training. No more of these bandaid/wishful thinking moves for players who are on the downside of their careers.

mets have money and to cheap to get free agents or they low on cash - either way mets ownership gave all met fans the middle finger

Reyes knows mets ownership are low on cash why sandy wasn't able to sign Drew

Sandy:  You are a lying piece of S _ _ t.  You have sold us all on the next year crap and you sold David Wright on it too.  I hope David Wright speaks to the press and demands a trade, because until something like that happens, nothing is going to change.  By not supplying a support line-up around David, you have ruined him.  I wish we had held on to Reyes, cheap, cheap, cheap.

Reyes is so full of CR@P and also quite full of himself for that matter.

Ha, ha...typical fans. Blame Thole & Reyes for telling the truth. The Mets are irrelevant, bottom feeders and its painful being a fan year after year...let alone playing for the Mets.

TDA has been scorching hot at the plate since returning to Vegas. How long before he gets the call back to the bigs? Hopefully he's got it figured out this time.

Hell, the last thing I want is their pity. Thole couldn't hit his weight when he was here. Reyes had some epic seasons but he was also very brittle. And often made Daniel Murphy look like Lou Brock on the basepaths. Nothing, however,  would give me greater pleasure than to see Toronto take the division.

And josh Thole and Jose Reyes have been on how many winning teams since they left the Mets? Absolutely ZERO.  Neither of them have played for a team that has had a winning record at the end of the season. Thole hasn't even been on the MLB club for a full season.  Yes, the Jays are doing well this year, but it's a long season... they should at least wait until the end of the season to blab their big mouths.

Wrong, nobody wants to play in front of this fan base. You idiots have created a poisonous atmosphere here and the media negativity is a direct result of them "wanting to sell papers." That is why Thole said everything is a story. That is why this team plays better on the road. You fake fans have made it so nobody wants to, and nobody can, play good baseball at Citi Field.

@cver I appreciate what Thole said. I'd actually be more interested in talking to him than Reyes who got star treatment the second he was called up. I agree that Thole is a borderline major leaguer but so what. He was expressing sympathy for Mets fans. It's a slam on the owner so I don't know a Mets fan that wouldn't agree with him in that respect.

@John Mallios Wait till next year became wait till next decade. Now we're in the "wait till next owner" phase :-/

awesome english...me hate Mets.....uugah....ugah...

Drew? THey let Reyes walk without ever picking up the phone the year he won the batting title. They got blown out of the water by the FLORIDA MARLINS. They now have a lower payroll than the San Diego Padres.

@kefhrny17 - why would he want to? He's already getting paid so why not play for a team that might win or in a city with a better media situation. The Mets don't have a ton to offer free agents unless they're going to be the highest bidder

@Tom Gallagher Gosh, hopefully never. He totally stinks. He's the worst catcher ever in the history of baseball.

@Kenneth Meltsner regardless of how u feel about these two it's their message that's most important.   Rarely do other players say thing like this in public.  It's been wait til next year forever and Wright signed with commitment from the team that it was focused on winning now.  I've never seen Wright show so much emotion on the field.  They have NO ONE in that lineup who can protect him.  The Mets more than owe him at least that for signing and for his recruiting and loyalty.

Jova1931

Hmmm... '05-'08 were winning seasons for the Mets.

Michael Frias

They've been on zero winning teams, but they've also haven't been getting killed in the papers and on the internet by the people that supposedly are "fans" and allegedly "support" the team.  So they know both sides of the coin when it comes to being on bad teams.  And they obviously like the side they are currently on.

Take Daniel Murphy.  Arguably the one player that has shown any level of consistency this year, yet a good majority of the "fan base" wants him traded because he's a poor baserunner.

@Dr. Jonathan Reefer just make a lineup of what alderson had available when he took over:

SS Reyes

2B Murphy

3B Wright

RF Beltran

1B Davis

LF Pagan

CF Lagares

C Thole

Tom Gallagher
Tom Gallagher

That Reyes contract is likely to be a mess in the final years. As for Reyes this year, he's been hot lately. As a result he's been able to bring his numbers up to a .269/.333/404 slash line with 15 SB. He had some amazing years here, but given his declining SB total, proclivity towards injury, and the general history of how players who rely on speed age, not signing Reyes WAS a smart move.

@sandybgone I don't applaud it, especially coming form the likes of Thole and Reyes. Thole was traded because he was the personal catcher to R.A. and knew how to catch his knuckleball... thats it, someone should remind him that.  Reyes was a good player, but i always found it troubling he found himself on the DL. He wanted so much money, but in my opinion he had an extremely high risk to land on the DL each year ... seems to me a few years back ... maybe if reyes wasn't on the Dl ... the excuse of next year would have been we did it !  Where were these strong statements last year when the jays weren't good .... now that they are in first place it bash the other guys ... that's not baseball, that's not a strong statement ... thats weak

@fakefans Yeah, cause it's the fans fault that this organization is been run into the ground by 2 incompetent fools.

@DarrolRayFanClub @ny12jets - I don't think the man is incompetent. I think he's a good Marine taking the bullet for the gutless, clueless and broke owners. There's plenty of stories that lead you to believe the Wilpons are FAR from being out of the woods financially. One story in the Capital online said the budget can change day to day, hour to hour or player to player. It's hard to build a team that way.

@Tom Gallagher I rather have Reyes' messy contract that CY and Granderson, Reyes was a home grown, an all start Met SS. A batting tittle winner with the Mets. Management will never admit to it, but it was a mistake not re-signing him.

Edwin Melendez

@chefmike87 @sandybgone They are not bashing anybody. They are commiserating for David Wright's plight of being caught up on this crappy team.  Reyes also said that it was not about the money because he was already set, he already got his money. It makes sense to want financial security for you and your family first, and once that has been achieved, be on a winning team.

chefmike87
chefmike87

@Edwin Melendez @chefmike87 @sandybgone yup i'm sure he and his family really enjoyed the security of moving from ... new york... to miami .... to canada. stop it, its about money, these guys say it isn't so they connect with us common people and we go buy their jersey. Again, ill point out.. these guys can bash the guys all they want ... reyes on the dl most of the time didn't help and josh thole didn't do a thing to help the mets. For reyes and i would guess thole that are good frineds with wright, i would take it as a slap in the face to make such a statement questing why i would stay with the mets  ... maybe it Wright out of the whole bunch that cares about tthe security of his family, staying were you built your home... and not chasing the money, then running your mouth when your team is in first place.
