Michael-Conforto

Mets could sign Michael Conforto soon

The Mets are close to a deal with their 2014 first-round draft pick Michael Conforto (Heyman, June 16).

The deal has yet to be finalized, but the Mets do not expect any obstacles (Rubin, June 16).

“He’s got some credibility,” an American League scout said after the draft (Oregonian, June 5). “I certainly anticipate him being a middle-of-the-order-type hitter at the Major League level.”

ESPN.com’s draft expert, Keith Law, said Conforto should now be considered the team’s top prospect over RHP Noah Syndergaard (ESPN, June 12).

In this two-minute video, SNY.TV profiles Conforto, featuring highlights and commentary from MetsBlog’s Matthew Cerrone, ESPN’s Chris Crawford and hosts from the MLB Network, as well as first-hand report from Mets scout Jim Reeves

I just cant seem to understand why all these commenters think they are so much smarter than people who make a living doing this. People who have never scouted a player in their life. Never sat in a draft room. Never managed a budget. Never negotiated a contract. You root for players to fail just to be right..prove your point. Dont like direction of team..there is plenty others to root for. Good riddance. Just dont come back when things turn around.

OK now let the endless drivel begin how this guy is the 2nd coming and all the Met fan has to do is "be patient"

A quality Beaver may be exactly what the Mets needs.

This guy doesn't look like a power hitter to me.....what is he ?, 4 feet tall?

This sounds like a guy who if he can't improve on his fielder is going to end up at first base.  If that does happen, people will say we have Dominic Smith at first base… The simple answer to that is that there is never too much depth.  We haven't had a consistent good first basemen since Delgado.  We can always use one as high quality trade bait if all goes well.  People doubt that Sandy has a plan because we live in New York, and New Yorkers are not patient… 2014 was supposed to be "the year that turned it around".  Yes, i believe that if Sandy had Harvey healthy this year he would have spent money this offseason and made more risks. But he's stalling the process until Harvey is ready, which could easily work out for them.  We have 3B: Wright, 2B murphy CF Lagares C D'Arnaud (don't give up on him just yet), Plawecki if he doesn't turn it around within the next year or so and Granderson as locks for your 2015 lineup barring injury/trade.  Not a bad core to spend 30-40 million this offseason on straight hitting.  The rotation will be some combination of 1. Harvey 2. Niese 3. Gee 4. Wheeler 5. Syndergaard 6. Colon most likely. Very, very solid rotation with the potential to be a top 5 rotation in league especially if wheeler figures it out.  This team HAS potential and they will turn it around in 2015+ and we as Met fans can finally stop complaining every year.  The only question is will the Wilpon's let Sandy spend this offseason.  I say yes, because I still trust Sandy Alderson that he has a plan that he can eventually spend when he really thinks we can contend.  That is next year. Have faith met fans HAVE FAITH !!! THERE IS LIGHT AT THE END OF THE TUNNEL THIS TIME AND I SEE IT COMING !

That stance reminds me of the Phillies 1basemen Howard

Who the hell cares.....He'll be newsworthy in 3-4 years when he is actually close to playing in NY

4 years and counting...not a single impact Sandy player on the roster. Not one. Some kid who got drafted out of the 10th pick in this year's draft is your best rated prospect. What a joke..... Not buying the BS being sold by these clowns in office about the farm. Not one bit. Only delusional losers buying this nonsense is the wilponzis, who from prior experience will clearly buy any horse manure sold to them by some egg head looking schiesters.

Sign him? I bet the Mets offer $1000 and a Mike Piazza poster signed by Jeff Wilpon.

Nah...he'll be knocking on the door by the end of next season.  He's not a long term guy.

Obviously your mind is made up.  There is no rationalizing with that.

@sandybgone There's a 42 second film clip on the internet of a couple of guys pounding away at each other.  Of course no security anywhere.  Welcome to another quality Wilpon production.

@eric88  Typical Terry. When he was batting 140 he started him. Then he got 3 hits and 7 rbi and he has played once.

@Mikey Jocks They were waiting for Sandy to calculate his Super 2 date on the Mayan calendar.

@Mark Phelan @Adam Stein If our front office actually believed that we are capable of winning 90 games this year then they would have spent money to turn us into a 100 win playoff team. Thats not what the Mets are about anymore. We have turned into a small market team who is still trying to spin stories to their fans in hopes of getting a big market attendance. Every off season we are told this is the year we are going to make the push and every season we have decreased our payroll in the mean time. Its the fans that actually think there is a light at the end of the tunnel with this group of owners that allow them to keep going. And hopefully if enough of us can aid the process of the Wilpons hitting rock bottom then one day we may get our beloved Mets back.

A small market team doesn have a budget anywhere near 90 million. What Sandy and CO are trying to do is what has worked for STL , TB , SF , OAK ,MIA, PITSBURGH and a few other teams which is to build from within. In order to do so the minor league system has to be flushed with prospects that are major league ready, good trade chips , fillers and blue chip. After this draft our depth and quality has improved and since we have not made any moves other than trades that bought in more prospects out system is ready . What we don't want SA & CO.doing is trading prospects for stop gaps and overpriced ,overpaid bums that clog up the 40 man. Last years FA pool was just got for us and although we clearly needed a RH power bat Grandy was the better option and Cruz was asking too much .

Anyway I agree that we are on the right track regardless of how bad things seem . What I don't like is the way they have become distrustful so we fans doubt that they even know what they are doing . This is still a NY team and I'm afraid that we won't lock up players like Murphy and even Harvey early enough that keeps them from Free Agency
