Recap: Rangers 5 – Mets 3

Result: The Mets fell to the Rangers 5-3 at Citi Field on Saturday night.

Need to know:  The Rangers jumped out to a 4-0 first inning lead with Robinson Chiniros  hitting a 3-run homer in the first inning off Bartolo Colon to put the Mets behind early.  That was the worst of it for Colon, who ended up going seven inning and gave up only one other run the rest of the way. The Mets’ offense stalled, though they did get a solo home run from the resurgent catcher Travis d’Arnaud. Curtis Granderson had two hits out of the leadoff spot. Colby Lewis picked up the win.

Game ball: Colon gets it for the Mets after a professional outing in the loss. After getting behind 4-0 after less than an inning, Colon gave the Mets a chance to rally pitching seven innings and giving up only a solo home run. Professional performance.

What’s next: The Mets and Rangers play their series finale on Sunday at 1:15 at Citi Field. Zach Wheeler (3-8, 4.25 ERA) gets the start for the Mets.

The Mets’ offense stalled. . . . You mean the Mets offense stinks. Sandy, when are you going to watch what goes on with this club. You assembled it, fix it.

I was at the game.  The "crowd" was understandably lifeless.  Probably the most lifeless I've seen the crowd this early in the season.

Like always the Mets had their chances. Bases loaded no one out and they only plated 2. 2 on no one out and Lagares hits into DP. Even in the 9th they had a man on and no one out and couldn't score. I was at game. As soon as they went down 4-0 game was over.

The only members of the team worth watching are the grounds crew.

When the Basses were loaded then Wright pops out,Duda of course never clutch I knew it was over. I am so tired of Lucas Duda, he will never be an elite first baseman and he has to go. so he hits 25 home runs that do nothing> the only thing in his favor is that Ike a'int doing so good either.

Lagares throws out a runner at home, time to bench him!!!!

Hey Sandy, to win 90 games we only have to go 53 - 22.

Hey Sandy, to win 74 like last year we must play .500 ball the rest of the way, starting tomorrow.

Hey Terry, don't worry, you still have a job.

They lost?! I really thought they were going to go on a winning streak this time! Alderson is the best GM in baseball....yet...the Mets continue to s u c k ...? It's a mystery.

That's sarcasm .

Does anyone really think this team is only a healthy Harvey away from competing?

You ever think about how our GM and Manger both have women's names?

Colon would rather have a juicy triple decker burger than the game ball.  Thats ridicilous how can a pitcher that gave up 5 runs get the game ball?  This blog sux I'm going to METSMERIZED they make more sense and they don't talk all that nonsense.  This blog has the mind of Collins an idiot!!  Call it as it is this team is not going anywhere for years to come until the Wilpons,Sandy and Collins is gone

ONCE AGAIN WE HAD SEVERAL CHANCES TO TIE OR WIN THE GAME. COULD SEE IT IN COLLINS FACE, VERY VERY FRUSTRATED, DUDA STRIKES OUT WITH THE BASES LOADED-LEGARES WAS TOLD TO BUNT, AS TO NOT HIT INTO A DOUBLE PLAY, HE HITS INTO A DOUBLE PLAY, CAN'T BUNT, TOOK A PITCH RIGHT OVER THE MIDDLE AND JUST LOOKED AT IT FOR A SECOND STRIKE!  ETC.

No mention of Neise going on the DL due to an injury he suffered before he got nailed with the Rios shot?

Neise has a shoulder injury. His fastball was clocked at 85mph to choo, not really a fastball. When Darling was bitching that TC should have left him in the game, Neise was telling the coach about his shoulder...why he didn't throw.

Neise had several inconclusive MRI's in Spring training. So i guess we wait to find out if it's tendonitis or a tear.

Ouch...and just yesterday we were discussing whether he'd be attractive in a trade?

This team isn't worth getting upset about anymore.  It is what it is.  There is little improvement to look forward to.  Now, Niese is going on the DL, the team's only lefty starter.

Terry Collins and Dan Warthen should get the game ball every day for still being employed and sucking so bad.

@brian2740 Sandy is willfully ignorant because the Wilpons have the final say on all his decisions. I'm sure Sandy didn't want to fire Dave Hudgens, but when the GM doesn't have any autonomy, this is what you get.

@JasonMiles Wright is more of the problem than Duda.  Duda's #'s r ahead of his career avgs.  Wright on the other hand is significantly below his production #'s plus he can't stay on the field. Wright is a HUGE problem this year and they still owe him $122 mil!!  Scares me to think what he's going to look like on the back end of his contract.

@JasonMiles  I'm with you...I've been preaching on the site for months now that this guy should be a back-up, of the back-up first baseman.  I'm sure FLORES would be able to handle first quite nicely or they can move MURPHY to first and give FLORES 2d base for the remainder of the season.  The DUD is not clutch and those homeruns are meaningless...this guy is pathetic and his at bats give the appearance of being overmatched every time we have men on base...he stinks and wouldn't be starting, let alone a bench player for the majority of teams.

@JasonMiles  Here's where all the Duda lovers come slithering in and start throwing 'stats' at you that prove you 'wrong'

@Jaime Those two were not going to happen with the Mets. I get the hindsight crap but let's at least get things correct.

Cruz was looking for 75M neighborhood dollars so Mets rightfully backed out and unfortunately chose CY. Bad move obviously but Cruz wasn't coming here for 7M like CY.

With the Mets payroll limitations they weren't going to take a chance on Abreu and give him 70M. Just wasn't going to happen. in hindsight it was obviously a no brainer but that's not realistic

crafalko17
crafalko17

@Jaime I don't mind Granderson tbh, but not going after Abreu is pretty bad. Knew they weren't going to pick up Cruz as CY was in the same role. Regardless how we look at that now. But having Abreu at first makes a big difference. Even if he'd only have say 20HR instead of 27 cuz of dimensions.

@Jaime Abreu and Nelson costs the same as Grandy by himself this year.

Well, 74 wins looks like a long shot. This team has fallen apart. Replace Collins already.

This blog lost its soul when the Wilpons bought it. The Wilpons control the narrative & content now, not objectionable writers.

Niese was actively arguing to stay in the game, it was very easy to read his lips. He kept saying "I'm fine!" He got pretty animated about it too.

William Bonilla

I've been wanting the Mets to trade him for a while...he's a good pitcher and he's a lefty...but he always gets hurts...i knew this would happen....it's probably going to happen again he will pitch great for 3 months next year...the Mets won't trade him and then he gets hurt...his stock keeps dropping

@Paul Grzymalski I'm pretty sure an escort service is the only other job where you can suck as much as Terry and still keep your job...

@Paul Grzymalski  our pitching is pretty good I can't compain about Warthen too much. Terry is a different story

The problem is CY. We can all agree on that. Please release him already.

You realize half his HR either tied the game or put the Mets up right? I get it, there ARE better 1st basemen and believe me Duda has me ripping my hair out but w/ all the major holes on this team he's been at least half way decent.

Richard Alicea
Richard Alicea

@brian2740 @JasonMiles  I disagree with you DUDA is a DUD and looks helpless each at bat...don't know what game you're watching, but DUDA is completely overmatched every at bat...those homers were just pure luck and strength...this guy needs to be riding the pine on a daily basis...I wouldn't even use him for pinch hitting as he's a failure at the plate.  If you like him that much go to Citi Field wearing his jersey...you'll be surprised at the reaction you'll get because most Met fans clearly are with me on this.

Olerud42
Olerud42

@brian2740 @JasonMiles Since the beginning of 2013, Wright has been the Mets most valuable position player, mores than Murphy. Wright with a 7 fWAR and Murphy with a 5.5 fWAR over that span.

Richard Alicea
Richard Alicea

@eric88  I agree, but initially CRUZ was looking for a large contract that would have probably exceeded that given to GRANDERSON, but nonetheless, I would have given him the money.  It's unfortunate that we have owners who are broke and working off an EBT card given by the state.

Tarheel11
Tarheel11

@eric88 Eric you keep saying this but you keep forgetting about the 10M signing bonus that Abreu got so he's getting 17M this year. No way the Mets were giving him 17M this year.

That's probably why Sandy won't fire Terry....he doesn't want to be the only one
