I realized something about Sandy that I don't think many others have. Before this realization, I was a defender of Sandy and thought the problem was trickling down from the Wilpons.

We are assuming that the Wilpons are cheap with no clear indication that they this is not Sandy's doing.

New York is a big market club, where we watched them succeed with a large payroll, UNDER THE WILPONs.Sandy Alderson is the guy who has the moneyball strategy coming from a small market team in the Oakland A's. Of course this strategy can work, but being a fan of the New York Mets, we are used to a high payroll and Sandy's philosophy, although it has shown to work (in Oakland), is NOT a good fit for a New York team.

In conclusion, I have now changed my perspective on this payroll issue and who to "blame." We can't bash the Wilpon's completely - I believe that this the majority of "not spending" is due to Sandy and his strategy of playing moneyball.

Bring in Wally and his coaches, sorry T.C. but it is time, you did a decent job with what you had.

...."10-5 in last 15 by the all-star break" said TC. When asked about last nights loss, he asked "11-4 then?"...

Wilmer watch:  went 2-4 batting 3rd and playing 1B.  If the Mets don't deal Murphy, they could be shopping Duda.  Either way, Reynolds is the SS of the future, and Wilmer is again being jacked to fill other holes.Flores is batting .310 as a full-time player in AAA.

We don't win very much do we?

I am so glad we have 7 outfielder.  This is much better.

When Wright returns, could we see Murphy bat in front of Wright in the 3 hole. Wright 4th

Not that the Mets are going anywhere this season, but this upcoming series looks like the absolute final straw - win three and "only" four games out; get swept and they're ten games out and then the season is "officially" toast.

Over/under on how may days it takes before a source from the front office tells someone from the media that, a) they are just as disappointed in how this team is playing as the fans, and then b) Terry Collins (despite the preceding comment) is doing a great job and his job is perfectly secure.

I'm placing it at 2.

So another loss and just like that...7 games out of the division.....

win 5 of 6 lose 4 of 5...just wipe the good feelings away just like that....low expectations....cant do much at this point....team is not built to win..team is built to ease payroll until the Wilpons books are back to normal...that is why Sandy was brought here...it will get better, we just have to be patient until the debt goes away...if you have been a Mets fan long enough, this team has ALWAYS spent money...google it...Madoff hit them in the worse way...the owners lying about it saying it did not, just makes them look like fools when the proof is in past payrolls prior to madoff and payrolls after it

Unfortunately, TCs job is safe because the kids play the "right way", even if that means "no fundies" way...

I laugh at the sentence " Murphy had three hits to raise his average to .301 and his OBP to .356. He has become the team's most consistent hitter".  Are we watching the same team? Murphy has been the team's most consistent hitter for about 4 years. It's not a recent development.

I've blamed Sandy all along.  The Wilpons do not claim to be very knowledgable about baseball.  They put their faith in their GM to make the right decisions.  Bud Selig is a good friend of Fred's and he recommended Sandy Alderson.  Sandy is CHEAP, gives out 1-year contacts and has an old school mentality.  He has made awful decisions for the team this year with Lannan, Farnsworth, Valverde and Chris Young.  Colon was a 2-year contract because of the transition on Harvey's return.  Granderson wasn't that great a contract at $15 mil a year for 4 years.  He wanted to stay in NY so badly that we could have gotten away with a 3 yr. contract but honestly, he's not worth $15 mil either.   The Wipons may not have alot of money but they gave Sandy 90 mil to spend this season.  He mismanaged the money and is an awful GM.  Someone is going to be fired by the end of the season whether it be Terry or Sandy. Maybe we'll get lucky and it will be both!

I would tend to agree with you but then there's just been to much about their finances to suggest otherwise. The fact that they had to borrow 25M from MLB just to pay their operating costs? That's pathetic. Too many things just scream no money

It's not about winning. It's about having fun and learning to play the game the right way.

Lol so true, sandy says 90 wins in march , we are on pace for 74 yet terry is doing a " great " job???....Wilpons are officially the masters of the Charles Wang school of ownership

I don't know what Terry's thinking

Darnaud. If he saw more fastballs can do more damage the tejada. ,,even when Wilmer mad there he hit to low in line up

He got on 6 times in the three games he was batting second. Isn't that good enough?

@kefhrny17  TC's job will always be safe with Alderson because he's the ultimate yes man, which is what Sandy's most interested in.  Collins will go this season only if Jeff Wilpon finally loses his patience and decides he needs a fall guy for the team's failures.

@Jim Murphy Prior to this season, I remember Murphy being very hot and cold. Two years ago, he didn't hit a HR until June. When Murphy slumps, he starts doing his golf swing. It was quite common before this season.

@Joe Wenzel Under de Roulet (Mrs. Payson's daughter)  they participated in ZERO, and traded Seaver.  Under Payson they were in 2 WS.

@1harris1 I was just about to say the same thing and then I saw your post.   You're exactly right.  Alderson likes "yes men" and that's why he'll never give Wally the job.  He says Terry's job is secure but, in the end, if the Wilpons say cut him loose Terry will be gone just like they gave the order to fire Hudgeons.   Something has got to give sooner or later.  I'd like to see both of them gone.

@sandybgone @theglider My issue with it is this..D'arnaud is suppose to be this highly touted prospect ...tejada was on verge of being off team..  why not give the highly touted prospect both the confidence and protection to get him in a groove?

qualcomm
qualcomm

@Doubleday Actually, Wilpon only owned a small fraction of the team and it wasn't a partnership until winter of 86... so we have zero titles in 28 years from the moment they got their hands on controlling interest and no WS appearances since getting sole ownership.

sandybgone
sandybgone

@George Komninakis @sandybgone @theglider I don't think they want to put a guy that, lets be honest, is struggling more than Tejada, and put the pressure of him batting second on his plate. With Wright out, there really is no number 2 hitter on this team and because Tejada has had over a .400 OBP in the last month, he gets the nod..and as much as I want to throw up saying it, he deserves it with his recent play. D'arnaud does not...

theglider
theglider

Plus d'Arnaud wasn't going to play Saturday. So rather than put two players in unfamiliar roles they kept the same number 2 hitter in all three games.
