Collins managed to get Familia into a game with a 6 run lead again.

Familia usage: Collins brushed aside a question about using the heavily worked Jeurys Familia with a six-run lead in the ninth inning. Familia has appeared in a team-high 45 games, three behind National League leader Brad Ziegler of the Diamondbacks.
“I wanted to show you guys he was OK,” Collins dryly quipped, “so you could sleep tonight.”

He so funny - I wonder if he'll be laughing come August when this kid goes on the DL.

So do you think they should keep Niewenhuis in the lineup?   I sure do!!

Flores homered AGAIN...still not an MLB MIF I though I guess...

David Wright's game of four hits including a homer had never been done before in a game by a Met at Citi Field.  The last two times a Met had four hits including a home run in a home game were both also by David, in the last days of Shea in September 2008 (on September 14, 2008, David actually had two homers among his four hits).   Though Wright's game last night was the only four hit including a homer game by a Met at Citi, 14 different opposition players have had such a game at Citi.

Hey Metsblog, Juan Lagares had THREE hits not two. I could literally comment an error in every single one of your posts.

Glad this homestand has come a long way to show that the Mets can hit at CitiField. The Mets could still use a real leadoff or middle of the order hitter.

Glad to see the Mets bounce back nicely.  The three wins against the Braves were great but this teams struggles to bounce back from a loss or two and get on another win streak.  There is still a lot this team needs to improve on but it is encouraging to see some things starting to click.

People going a little overboard now that the team is hot. Nice to see but the real test comes in winning the close games. If they can stop making those dumb mistakes on the basepaths and in the field in those one run games then they will take a big step towards competing for a playoff spot.

Oh yea and i forgot to pay homage to the guy who mans a place where extra base hits go to die.  J Lag.  Offensively and defensively, what an incredible player he already is.

What another great win for this squad.  This team can certainly sustain this type of play going forward.  I can't remember the last time I watched the Mets play this well.  It reminds me of the good teams from 06-08'.  We are clicking on all cylinders.  This is all because Grandy is hitting now, TDA realizing that he doesn't want to go back to AAA, Lucas having new found confidence and El Capitano back to his old self.  I mean Duda on pace for 30 jacks with close to 100 rib eye steaks.  We'll take that all day. The starting pitching is phenomenal.  The bullpen is incredible, Edgin with a 1.84 ERA, seriously was that correct.  Man oh man, that's unbelievable. Vic Black and Familia (2.14 ERA) along with Mejia at the back end.  This has to be the best overall pitching I think I've ever witnessed.   It really is lights out with these guys.  The lineup also is a huge part of their new winning ways of late.  With the lefty and righty mix of Soup and Captain Kirk there is no need to put CY back out there.  As much as we wanted him to be the power hitter we needed him to be, forget it.  These guys are a much better mix, especially sprinkling in there a EY here and there.  I wonder if only one piece needed that will really put us deep in the hunt.  Can a major upgrade at SS do it for us.  Imagine a .300 hitter with 20+ jacks mining SS for us.  I don't know who that could be for us but he's certainly out there and can be had with some of our young prospects we can offer up.  I'm very happy for what Tejada is doing for us at this moment, key hits and solid defense.  But if there is one real position we can really upgrade at it's there.  Flores didn't show enough there at that position, especially at the plate, hence the reason why is not here.  I would've liked him to really get a good looong look there at that position and especially at the plate.  But he never really got that real solid shot there.  I would like a major upgrade there at that spot and I think we can roll off several winning streaks.

Let's see more of Kirk and Campbell in left.

Spot starts for EY and use him as a pinch runner or to replace Campbell late in game for defense.

Abreu shouldn't really be starting, at least only very rarely. Though he has been surprisingly mobile in the field, it's not something to be relied upon.

Cut Chris Young. He's done. It's just sad to see him come up to bat at this point.

Bring up a legit backup middle infielder. It's ridiculous, Tejada is no iron man. I do like to see Lagares and Tejada bat back to back though, they seem to have chemistry.

Terry Collins needs to show more faith in the other half of his bullpen. He's wearing out the best arms on games they're leading by 4+ runs, it's shameful.

Lagares is the real deal, love to watch him in center.

D'Arnaud looks like he's completely over his early season mental struggles.

Duda is just crushing the ball lately, he's quietly putting together a nice season.

Wright, Murphy and Granderson areproducing at a fairly equal rate.

It's too bad they took this long to hit their stride, hope they come into the second half strong.

hello everybody im a long time die hard mets fan i want to point out something that will probably interested a lot of people here fist off the mets aren't going to trade murphy and they aren't going to get a big key at bat they are 7 games out of .500 and set back in the division we are not far away we are hear complaining about the ability of terry collins ability of his poor in game decisions. Terry collins don't know how to mange the game but, the mets still doing their job and holding themselves in their for the most, part and you got to give them that Dan Hudgens was a poor defensively batting coach after the departure. the bats came alive we saw they are hitting first pitch in the count and they are getting the hits to produce runs meanwhile don't forget the keys guys like daniel murphy and granderson are getting the job for them and david wright too and one more thing don't count them out just yet their plenty of games left a whole another half to go

I do give Tejada much respect of late. I was especially impressed by the way he was motoring around the base pads. Like Keith said "tejada is showing some speed out there".

@pochemu He's not a make all the plays MLB shortstop.  Sorry.  I like him too but he originally was signed as a ss and couldn't handle it at the Low A level.  He will be part of a trade I'm guessing.

@pochemu  Where you playing Flores?  The manager of the team doesn't trust him at SS.

Sean Garcia
Sean Garcia

Why tejada has been doing everything they've asked him to do all Flores is gonna do is weaken us defensively and strike out in key situations he's not gonna hit right away it's gonna take sometime and we can't afford to put him in a spot to fail plus Las Vegas Is a hitters paradise don't look into those homers to much hitting in citi field is a totally diffrent monster

Tormented Mets Fan

Terry (in his head) has no reason to play Flores because Tejada is producing. And he is...I think he can hold his own but I do think Flores can be a power threat

Completely disagree, and I'm not saying it because he pitched well tonight (I've been saying it on this site all season). People need to have some patience with this guy. Everybody isn't Dwight Gooden. Allow this kid the chance to develop, and you'll have something very good.

He's just too slow for the outfield from what I've read.

He can be platooned.

@Sean Matrai Wrong. He has very good hands and a strong arm. He is a better infielder than Murphy right now.

Exactly. Tejada has done enough short term. Flores is just the odd man out here unless someone gets injured (let's hope it doesn't come to that)

@Tormented Mets Fan 1-4 is producing, when Wilmer drives in 5 runs a night?  I just don't get it.  That said, Wilmer is not in the line-up tonight.  One can only hope he is an a plane to New York.

Don't worry he probably thought Dillon gee sucked too when he first got called up people like that don't see the big picture all he sees is a very young pitcher making mistakes

@1harris1 As inconsistent as Wheeler was in the first half, he finished the half with a 3.90 ERA. Better than Colon's ERA.  Pretty good for a 24 year old kid, and he'll only get better.

zoddie
zoddie

No it wasn't. He's only had one bad season after two solid ones. He hit in 2011, 2012, and is hitting in 2014. Right now 2013 looks like the outlier.

Doubleday
Doubleday

@Tormented Mets Fan Reports say Terry told him to go down ans get time at 3B, 2B, and 1B, "In case anything happens," at the deadline.  Hmm.

metsbb76

@Doubleday Not only did Tejada hit another RBI single, but he made that great throw to nail the runner at the plate. How many good games does Tejada have to have before people stop complaining about him? It's amazing to me how people don't seem to realize how important defense is at SS. It is hands down the most important position on the field. You CAN'T have a poor defender at that position. Not many scouts think Flores can play SS. Tejada is a very solid defensive SS, and there is real value in that.

cleonsvan
cleonsvan

@Sean Garcia  To be fair, Gee wasn't touted as a prospect. I didn't think Gee would be this good and to be frank I doubt anybody did.

jenkins
jenkins

@Doubleday @Tormented Mets Fan That's exactly what his role should be in NY right now. Platoon at 1B, rest for Murphy and  Wright and alternate at SS vs RH's.

He'd be playing 5 times a week and we'd know what we have. Nobody knows now-including the Mets.

charlie duck sauce

@metsbb76 So Flores was poor at SS? I have to disagree. He isn't Troy T but was very adequate at the position. This thinking that your middle infielders have to be INF wizards needs to end.

@Brandon Austin But still a bad player at 0.6 fWAR. Unacceptable production from him on the year, and we desperately need an upgrade at SS.
