Recap: Marlins 3 – Mets 2

Result: The Marlins held off the Mets 3-2 in Miami throwing out the winning run at the plate in the ninth inning to end the game.

Need to Know: Marlins center fielder Marcell Ozuna threw out Mets’ Kirk Nieuwenhuis at the plate to end the game on a flyball from Chris Young as the Mets’ ninth inning rally fell short. Niewenhuis had doubled to begin the ninth and was moved to third on a Ruben Tejada bunt. The Mets, who trailed 3-0 entering the eighth, had scored two runs in the top of the eighth on RBI singles from David Wright and Eric Campbell. Wright was out at the plate in the eighth trying to score on Campbell’s single as Ozuna threw out the first of two in the final two innings. Daisuke Matsuzaka took the loss for the Mets, but gave up only one run in 5.1 innings of work.

Game Ball: Ozuna threw the tying run out at the plate in the eighth and the ninth for the Marlins.

God forbid that we give credit to an opponent.  Instead, we get the endless search for which Mets to blame.  It is really tiresome.

Ozuna made two great plays.  That's why we lost.  Tip the cap, and move on.

Dice-K really has been stellar in his role this year. Guy just pitched a few days ago after leaving with a stomach bug and comes back and gives you one run in 5+  I'm glad I didn't watch this game. Sounds painful.

Captain Kirk was tearing the cover of the ball at triple a-   he should be in the line-up every day..  Batting lead-off where he likes batting.   Not saying he is going to be willie mays--just saying that he can't be much worse than C. Young  and we have nothing to lose by playing him every day to see what he can do up here..

Even though the ump blew the call on the catcher illegally blocking the plate, Wright is quoted in the NY Post as saying "its confusing".  He doesn't want to hurt anyone's feelings.  Jesus, David.

Ozuna was their left fielder, and no blame falls on Teufel. Sending Wright and Nieuwenhuis was the correct call in both cases given the lack of run scoring. It took two perfect throws to get both runners out.

Hey Sandy, Wallys is the guy you need up here, but you will screw that up too. You are lucky you work for Heckle and Jeckle so you can screw up with impunity.

Las Vegas wins again.  4 in the bottom of the ninth.  TDA with 3 hits.

Looks like help from the minor leagues is on the way.  The Savannah Sand Gnats (one of our Single A teams) lost 21-1 tonight.  Their starting pitcher gave up 11 runs over 4 innings, only one of which was earned.

At least d'Arnaud continues to rake in Vegas (up to .447).  We're all waiting with bated breath as to what our major league scout assigned to watch him has to say.  Seriously though, it would be nice if this guy has found his stroke and could hit .270-.280 up here.  The major league team could really use it.

Goodness gracious this team is bad. I get it that the team's offense is woefully pathetic and everyone in the organization is totally incompetent right down to the bloggers, but can I at least get a major league slide into home? Just one aggressive slide?!? I mean really, anyone can slide, right? That's all I ask - just one damn stinkin' friggin' slide that looks like you might actually want to score! Is there just one player on this team that can do what Carlos Beltran did for the Yankees tonight?!?!

Leave the Mets, Leave the Mets

Go away, just leave the Mets

Hide your kiddies, Hide your wife

Guaranteed to really ruin your life

Cause the Mets aren't really hitting the ball

Racking up strikeouts that's about aaaallllll

East side, West Side everybody's gotta frown

Because the M E T S Mets let New York down

Is Sandy crazy. The METS SHOULD WIN 90 GAMES. On pace to win 68 games. Terry is doing a good job. which is which.

I firmly believe that nothing will change during the season and after since the Wilpons will still be owners and Sandy will still be GM.

@William O'Sullivan

Excuses used so far:

1. the ballpark is too big

2. the players are tired

3. the fans boo us too much

4. Keith and Ron are too critical

5. the umpires won't reverse calls that go against us

6. fans are not buying enough tickets so no money to get better players

Excuses yet to be used:

1. the dog ate the strikes we hunted

2. the sun was in my eyes

3. my spouse . . .

Never admitted:

1.  CY signing was major mistake

2.  we counted on Parnell and had no legit Plan B

2.  we gave up on 2014 as soon as Harvey went down

@George Komninakis  Both Kirk and MDD are AAAA players!! They play well in Vegas but do nothing but strikeout in the bigs.

@thwacker  The umpire did not blow the call. Wright was out by 20 feet. Teufel blew the play.

The slide by Kirk was awful. His lead foot was under his body. He might have had a chance if he slid correctly. How does someone get to the Major Leagues without knowing how to slide?

I blame Teufel for Wright's out.  Not even a close play.  I do, however, blame Kirk for his.  No excuse for not scoring.

I agree with most of what you said but I would add one thing. The Mets helped create this situation by beating up on Tejada in the media. It's no wonder he doesn't speak up; they beat whatever self confidence he had right out of him.

@1harris1 "The major league team could really use it.," Yeah. If Sandy's team is going to succeed, TDA has to be a part of it. Even then, I'm not sure it's enough. Basically, Sandy's entire offensive plan was Wright and TDA, so...

@Kyle Turck 10 all the way - at least something to smile about tonight!  (Well Travis, too - get back up here soon)

@eric88

This is a game they could have won.  That said, they have no room for error, given the level of talent, and they make plenty of mistakes.

They could easily be on a .500 pace.  Between the games Valverde and Farnsworth lost, the mistakes Terry has made and letting games like this one slip away, that's why they are in last place, rather than within a game or two of the division lead.

I wish I believed things will be different in coming months, but they still play like the same old under .500 team of the last few years.

@eric88 What I dont get is Sandy saying he likes TC cause he teaches the young players how to play in the majors. By showing them how to sit the bench? They come up swinging the bat good and immediately sit on the bench for him. So of course when he decides to play them they're ice cold. This is teaching them the big leagues?

@kefhrny17 Even if we had money, would you want Sandy to spend it?

@ken1010 @eric88 You're on drugs if you think this roster could be "easily .500." This is not a .500 roster.
