The Diamondbacks (19-31) took the first official game of a three game set from the Mets (21-26) 3-2 on Saturday at Citi Field.
Need to know: The Mets bats remained silent in a loss to the Diamondbacks that spoiled a terrific outing from Zack Wheeler, who went 6.2 innings and struck out seven giving up three runs, but only two earned. Wheeler fell to 1-5 in the loss, but pitched much better than that.
David Wright had three hits, hit a home run, but that was about it for the Mets offense.
The Mets fell to 1-9 in one run games in their last 10 games dating back to April 26 and have dropped the last four opening games of the series. Arizona jumped out to a 3-0 lead with Matt Prado having two hits and two RBIs for the Diamondbacks.
The Mets fell behind 3-0 and never did get the game even. Wright and Curtis Granderson were the top hitters. Granderson had two more hits and had a double, RBI and is hitting .324 in may with 10 extra-base hits and a team-high 15 RBIs.
What’s Next: The Mets play a single-admission double header on Sunday against the Diamondbacks starting at 1 p.m. at Citi Field.
