Recap: Diamondbacks 3, Mets 2

The Diamondbacks (19-31) took the first official game of a three game set from the Mets (21-26)  3-2 on Saturday at Citi Field.

Need to know: The Mets bats remained silent in a loss to the Diamondbacks that spoiled a terrific outing from Zack Wheeler, who went 6.2 innings and struck out seven giving up three runs, but only two earned. Wheeler fell to 1-5 in the loss, but pitched much better than that.

David Wright had three hits, hit a home run, but that was about it for the Mets offense.

The Mets fell to 1-9 in one run games in their last 10 games dating back to April 26 and have dropped the last four opening games of the series. Arizona jumped out to a 3-0 lead with Matt Prado having two hits and two RBIs for the Diamondbacks.

The Mets fell behind 3-0 and never did get the game even. Wright and Curtis Granderson were the top hitters. Granderson had two more hits and had a double, RBI and is hitting .324 in may with 10 extra-base hits and a team-high 15 RBIs.

What’s Next: The Mets play a single-admission double header on Sunday against the Diamondbacks starting at 1 p.m. at Citi Field.

I have been a die hard Mets fan for over 30 years,I'm surpised I'm still alive and not dead from a heart attack from all the yelling at the tv

Shame on Alderson and Collins for keeping Chris Young in games--the ONLY explanation for it is his contract. Bench the guy for two weeks.  Leave Eric Young in there

I am so tired of watching the  METS lose games that they should've won. How can you  leave so many runners on base and expect to win! Are the coaches paying attention to this basic stat?

They have had  runners on 2nd and third with 1 out or less in multiple innings in the past 4 games and cannot score!

The Youngs, Duda, Murphy and Wright need to step up!

Come on Lets Go Mets!

Is it possible to picket the stadium? Do we need a permit ? Can we gather about 50 fans with placards and just sit in front on game day and shout:

"WILPON SELL THE TEAM!"

Anyone else know deep in their jaded Met fan hearts that after Grandy's double bounced over the wall we wouldn't score again in that inning? Season now more than one-quarter complete. What do we know? We have problems at C, 1B and SS. Sound familiar? Bullpen is marginally better. Team has third-fewest wins in NL. It just started earlier than usual this season. Time for a new broom to sweep clean.

Maybe its me  but one thing that strikes out is that most of the Mets don't give a damn about how they perform.......just look at their faces when they strike out, or miss a play except for Wright and Murphy but all else its "big deal!" attitude. That is dead wrong and higher ups have to do something about that type of culture.

Purposely avoided posting for these first 2 months willing to give team and front office a chance to show me I was wrong when I said this team would be a disaster. Let's take a look at facts: team sucks at every level. Great job! In my world, there would be a lot of firing starting from Sandy and working down to coaches and players.

Then again, it's our fault. If only the fans would go to Citi everything would be different....

If I was a young pitcher on the mets, I'd leave as soon as I can. I don't care how big the ballpark is, or how it's so "pitcher friendly".

I'd want to go to a team that can score some runs. I wouldn't want the pressure of having to pitch a no- hitter every time out.

Nelson Cruz and Peralta (along with Granderson) were the only 3 ML fa's I wanted; I also desperately wanted to sign Abreau.

Im not bringing anything new to the table as Im sure 90% of Mets fans wanted the same guys. Peralta would have cost but Cruz was there for the taking. With those four signings we'd be the best team in baseball right now.

The real shame is that we ALL knew what players we needed to after, and we only got one of them when we easily could have signed at least 2 of the other 3 (maybe all 3).

I doubt Campbell is the long term answer but you might as well give him a shot.

I think we've all seen enough of Duda. They've been counting on this guy to be a middle of the order run producer for 4 years and he's proven time and again that he can't get the job done.

Stop spelling Wheeler's name wrong. It's ZACK, with a "K", not ZACH, with an "H"!

I guess the "M" in Mets stands for "mistakes" because that's what this club seems to be good for, and there doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason for the dumb *ss mistakes that have been made.  TCollins is lost, he is indecisive and incompetent as a MLB team manager, he has not had an above .500 team the 3 years he's been with the Mets, and I betcha he has no clue that his indecisiveness cause he players more harm than good ... but some idiot in the front office thinks he doing a "fantastic job".  SandyA, I am thinking your days in Flushing are numbered, this team can't win 90 games under TCollins even if your pitching staff was healthy.  Mistakes surround you SandyA and you have failed to correct any of them, Duda vs Davis, wow? One of these guys is now hitting close to .300 and guess what? it's not the guy in NY, Flores vs Tejada for the SS job, yeah, really a competition in the middle of the season, and just what is spring training for again... yeah just what I thought, your manager starts the season with to many outfielders, no everyday 1B, and inexperienced backstop trying to guide rookie pirtchers thru a major league start--again I say SandyA, if TCollins doing a fantastic job in your view, then what exactly would you call f*cking it up!

their catcher is in AA.  their LF  and second baseman are in A ball.  their top 2 starers are in AAA and on the DL.  Their closer is also on the DL although he could be our 8th inning sometime next year.

they wasted 17 million on Young and Colon.  however they will be gone in 1-2 years and the young guys should be ready.

they need to trade some pitching for a ss and or a first baseman.

winning now is out of the question as is next year.

Alderson's Big Splash in Free Agency: He spent $32MM this year on Chris Young, Curtis Granderson and Bartolo Colon.

One is hitting .206, another .214 and Colon is 3-5 with a 5.34 ERA.

What exactly is the plan Sandy?

I wish that Eric Young be inserted back into the line-up and bats first. Our Table setter Mets needs him more than Lagares in CF.

How long are we going to play Duda? He sucked last year and clearly sucks this year.

I don't understand what everyone is so upset & surprised about. This is the Mets team that we expected going into this season. The Mets played well above their talent level in April & now they're back down to earth. They have a rotation anchored by a 40 year old, a bullpen that features 2 guys who were career minor leaguers before the Mets got them, and a lineup that has 6 players who hit under .250 in 2013. Aside from third base & second base, the Mets have far below average offensive production. I have seen more than enough of Lucas Duda to know that he is not a starting caliber player in this league. This is the third starting job, at 3 different positions in as many years, and all he did the past 2 was play so bad they had to demote him. He is heading in that direction again this season. He is the complete opposite of a clutch hitter; he needs 60 HR in a season to break 100 RBI. I am also so damn tired of watching him stare at fastballs down the heart of the plate, with men in scoring position, trying to work the count & get a walk. There is a difference between selective at the plate & extremely passive, and he falls into the latter category. I have also seen enough of Ruben Tajada. The Mets announced to the world that they needed an upgrade at SS & here we are, going into the last week in April & he and his below Mendoza batting average are getting significant playing time. It's about time Terry Collins makes the right choice, tells Tejada he is done as a starter for this team, and give Flores or Campbell the start every single day & night. Then you have Chris Young & his $7 million contract. Such a great signing by Alderson. He is so out of whack that he is resorting to snake oil to try to fix his game. Snake oil? Just in case you guys didn't know, Nelson Cruz is hitting .286, 15 HR, 43 RBI. But hey, we have Chris Young!!!

I'm sorry guys, especially the Alderson apologists, but this team is in bad shape. It's not only in bad shape this year, but next year as well. I don't think that on e Harvey returns we can turn on a switch & all of a sudden contend in 2015, it's just not going to happen. Sandy Alderson has not built depth on this team & for all of the good pitching prospects he has stacked, we don't have a single position player prospect worth a damn anywhere in the system. The only way this team starts winning is if Alderson spends money on good free agents & takes a risk. He also needs to trade some of these prospects to bring in a bat or two. It is very risky to bring a highly touted prospect up to the majors because you run the risk of him being exposed as not being very good (See, Lastings Milledge, Alex Escobar, Fernando Martinez). However, he has been adverse to both options, so I don't see how this team is going to get better. I don't see this team making any headway until a new GM comes here, one that is willing to take some risks in the market. For all the bad things people say about Omar Minaya, at least he brought us an NL East crown & an inning away from the World Series. That is far more than what Alderson has given us.

The answer to all ur questions, management sucks, they should have given the managers job to wally backman, whe they finally give him the job,I give it 2 years and we will see some action

@kph16 That is way too many as I have stated a few months ago when there are 5k paying fans things may  change a little not to save the season but to make an effort to get better next year if possible. But don't hold your breath

Yes, it is just you. Mind-reading doesn't come easy. Professionals come in a variety of ways. Some are more visible in their emotions, but most of them remain self-contained and bland because they go through this every working hour. It all changes quickly after a walk-off hit when the whole team does a group dance.p

@Haig Mathosian Sadly for them, they'll all be under Mets control for a very long time. Gee is the closest to be able to bail out...and even he has 2 years of arbitration left.

@11gilkey I agree with you on Duda....bases loaded in the 1st he takes 2  88mph fastballs right down the middle. then strikes out swinging at something almost over his head. next ab, 2nd and 3rd, he takes 87mph fastball right down the middle..... cant the hitting coach or manager tell him to swing at fastballs down the middle with runners on...if he wont listen, bench him, or send him to the minors.

Umm Nimmo, Herrera, and Plawecki are all highly regarded hitting prospects who are absolutely ripping the ball this year.

It's on him at this point. He's dumb and lacks confidence. That's a bad combination. They are not telling him to take strikes down the middle. I never blame the hitting coach. Talent prevails. Do you think Wright and Murphy listen to Hudgens?

Antonino Plaud
Antonino Plaud

@TheJMan You got me wrong ( didn't say sit Lagares, only as an example ) and I quickly will explain, I meant if you don't play Lagares  the team suffers less than when you don't play Young Jr.. Maybe if you play EYjr. at second and try Murph at first we could change this team  totally around. Lagares is an excellent player but not a leadoff hitter absolubtely!!

lindro88
lindro88

Are any of those guys top 100 prospects? I know they are our best, but every team has minor leaguers ripping the ball. How highly regarded are they outside the Mets system?

lindro88

EY can't play 2nd base on a regular basis. The answer is go out and get an actual major league quality, power hitting first baseman. Hopefully someday that will happen
