Need to Know: The Mets lost their second straight game to the Cardinals on Tuesday night in St. Louis 5-2. Jonathon Niese (3-4) pitched well enough to win, giving up only three earned runs in six innings pitched. However, the Mets offense, for the second straight night did their starting pitcher no favors. Yadier Molina homered to open the scoring in the second inning. David Wright tied the game with a solo shot of his own two innings later, but the Cardinals would push across two runs a piece in the fifth and six innings to take a lead they would not relinquish. Only four Mets had hits in the loss. For St. Louis, starter Michael Wacha (5-5) earned the win, pitching five innings and giving up one earned run.

Game Ball: Give it to Wacha, who was consistent over 6 strong innings, striking out seven and only walking two batters.

What’s next: The Mets will conclude their series in St. Louis on Wednesday afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for 1:45 PM. Bartolo Colon toes the rubber for the Mets against Lance Lynn.

They had multiple doubles to open the inning and could not score.  Bases loaded with one out and did not score. RISP hitting must be well under .200.  It;s like a mental thing..  Maybe a real good hitting coach.could help them.  And maybe its this real stupid hitting philosophy of searching for strikes. Sandy, its not working!

Last night I made the conscious decision to forgo the DVR and watch Fargo--regardless of the score. I just cannot watch this team. It has become THAT painful. The very second Murphy (worst two-tool player in MLB) botched the slow liner we all knew the game was over. And old man Abreu has been routinely tuning OF singles into doubles and doubles into triples. Over the past several years I have watched nearly 140 games per season (yes, my life IS that empty). Even when the tea stinks you got the impression that all parties concerned were trying. You just don't get that feeling with this squad. And Sandy Alderson may be guilty of more hubris than Oedipus (with every bit as much 'vision'). Well, no more. It has become far less aggravating to root against the Yankee than root for the Mets. I won't defect to the World Cup (I'm frustrated by not insane) but, as the old fellow said to George Costanza, life is too short to spend with you.

Now, if only the Wilpons would sell the team!

IS OUR MANAGER STILL DOING AN EXCELLENT JOB?  AND, WHAT ABOUT OUR MARVELOUS GM?  ANY MORE LIKE THEM AND WE SHOULD BE 40 GAMES OUT BY SEASON'S END.

I'm starting to think that The Mets built a stadium, hired Alderson to put together the worst clowns possible, in order to sell the entire package in a few years.

I realize that Murphy is the Mets best hitter, but he makes me crazy with his constant running and fielding blunders. "What was he thinking" comes to mind with watching him at least a couple times a week.

This team is unwatchable. A shake up is needed.

Honest question, humor me here: let's say, somehow, you fall ass backwards into money and are now the world's newest Billionaire. AND, you somehow talk the Wilpons into selling your our "beloved" New York Mets ... congrats!

No what? How would you fix this team? This is a common question over beers in my group and honestly ... I just don't know. We have a nice group of arms in the minors, but are they really as good as the Mets have made them out to be in the media? We have ZERO bats capable of helping this team for at least 3 years -- and likely more -- and even those players aren't sure things.

Citi Field is a morgue, and hardly a destination any free agent would long to frequent. Outside of David Wright, who could we even trade to improve this roster? And if we trade Wright, his value has never been lower.

Thoughts?

We all need to stop posting about the mets because it shows we care, and as long as Alderson and Wilpon see that there are still passionate Met fans despite nothing about the Mets one should be a fan of,  they will continue feeding us with the worse manager of all time-Collins.

Question for the nitwit Collins-- Why isn't Flores playing every day?  Better yet, why aren't you fired yet?

I watched the game last night and the Cardinals showed us how a good team plays baseball. They had the panache we had in 1986 and 2000. Our team is clearly headed in the wrong direction and that may be by design. . . a hidden agenda lurks in the Mets future.

So disgusted by Wilpons I'd welcome James Dolan with open arms.

Again, I will not go to any game nor watch them on SNY until they prove to me that they care more about us fans than their cash.

Please don't tell me they're broke, with the huge increase of sports teams, they can re-finance any debt they have.

I must admit,I'm starting to pay less and less attention to games as I watch em,not a good sign!

I have been a life long Mets fan and i'm as angry or angrier than all of you.  The thing I don't get is everyone's comments on Terry, Sandy etc.  They have no control over this circus.  They are simply carrying out the plan of our foolish owners.  Don't you think Sandy and Terry, know, and agree with the fact that this is a terrible team that is now in the basement and will likely continue to sink deeper into the basement?

But its becoming increasingly clear that Sandy was probably given clear direction by these 2 fools.  The truth is, as much as they try to convince everyone otherwise, that they are in fact in big financial trouble, but still don't want to give up the team.  There is simply no other explanation for a New York team to continue to shuffle in/out career minor leaguers and 40 year old washups; they have to be broke.   Sandy can't say this, he's payed by these 2 fools to be part of the charade.

Blame Fred and Jeff, and show your anger and frustration by having the two of them stare at 30, 000 empty seats; and then blame our Commissioner for letting this travesty continue in a major market.  The minute that it came out that these 2 fools were wrapped up with Madoff, a responsible Commissioner would have stepped in and addressed it so that the franchise didn't suffer.  Sandy and Terry are just Wilpon puppets collecting a paycheck, and if they were able to be truthful would probably say that they are as embarrassed as us to be associated with these fools and this organization.  No different than many of us who have had idiotic, incompetent bosses at one point or another and had to play the game until we could do something different.

@Peter Loibl With new ownership and management with baseball savy and money to spend, the rush would be on.

@Peter Loibl With Bloomberg money in hand, I would first address the PR nightmare the Mets have become by lowering ticket prices across the board. For too long now families have not been able to afford a day at Citi without spending 3/4 of a paycheck.  That's a damn shame. As for player personnel, if possible,  I would sign the best position player available and hope for the Pedro Effect, where other quality FA's might want to come here also because, if it's good enough for Pedro.... I believe the young arms need to establish themselves a bit more before we can put together a decent trade for a bat.  If Syndegaard comes up and fulfills the hype, I might part with Jon Niese for starters. I have no idea who'll be available this offseason but, if I can pretend to be a billionaire then Giancarlo can be FA.

MetsFan1962

@Peter Loibl . . .Had the Mets kept affordable Marlon Byrd and Latroy Hawkins, the team would be a .500 or better club. Both could have been had for the cost of Chris Young.

MetsFan1962
MetsFan1962

@George Komninakis . . .I agree TC is part of the problem....The Wilpons control the team and with MLB's blessing has one of the own Sandy Alderson running the club, The question is: What is the real long term plan for the Mets? Some speculate the team could be moved to Montreal so the Wilpons could further develop the land CitiField now occupies.Fans not attending games give the Wilpons a reason to move the team. Remember the Montreal exposition game at the beginning of the season, think about it.

@johnsec125 Yes!  Two games behind the Cards!  Straw hit a homer that almost took down the scoreboard to end the game.  i was so excited, I made love to my Debbie Gibson poster.

I agree Alderson has been given a crappy budget, but he did a bad job giving $20.5 million to Granderson and Chris Young. Granderson only hit 40 home runs because of the short porch in Yankee Stadium, which also caused him to be an all or nothing hitter. Chris Young has never been a good hitter, even when he was hitting home runs he never hit for average.

Alderson was given $20.5 million and he spent it poorly.

@kph16 Personally, while I agree that it's the commissioner and the owners who are making us suffer like this; I'm very much convinced it's to help Fred keep a team. it's true we are totally meaningless to these people, but I don't think it means they're keeping this particular team.

If you forget it's the Mets for a moment and look at the recent history of MLB and then use some financial logic... to me it's clear as day what's going on here.

There's a way for Fred to get out of debt, own and control an MLB team, get his brother-in-law off the hook and totally fix his bank account.  Snoopy sticker goes to the poster who can tell me what I'm thinking... ;)

@kph16 While I agree with much of what you say anyone with integrity[ Terry & Sandy], would not sit back and continually make excuses and lie to the fans.  It is insulting to constantly be told by Sandy that things will get better and that we as fans have to support this nonsense.  It is insulting to claim that Terry keeps the team playing hard (what does that even mean?) and it's insulting for Terry to say that "we have to do better."  I can't believe that Terry or Sandy need the money that badly that they have to constantly spew the party line of we're going to get better.  Well I believe we are now in LAST place!! and will likely stay there.

@kph16 I'm my own boss, and they are more idiotic and incompetent than me.

Alderson is being paid millions of dollars a year though, and it's not like Terry is getting a managerial job anywhere else. They have no problem spewing the party line.
