Jonathon Niese (3-4) pitched well enough to win, giving up only three earned runs in six innings pitched. However, the Mets offense, for the second straight night did their starting pitcher no favors. Yadier Molina homered to open the scoring in the second inning. David Wright tied the game with a solo shot of his own two innings later, but the Cardinals would push across two runs a piece in the fifth and six innings to take a lead they would not relinquish. Only four Mets had hits in the loss. For St. Louis, starter Michael Wacha (5-5) earned the win, pitching five innings and giving up one earned run.
