Recap: Brewers 3 – Mets 1

Result: The Mets fell to the Milwaukee Brewers 3-1 in game two of a three game series at Citi Field on Wednesday.

Need to Know: Jacob deGrom (0-3), in his sixth major league start, failed to earn his first win. deGrom gave up three runs on nine hits in five and two-thirds innings pitched. The Mets got on the board first with a Lucas Duda sac fly in the second, but the Brewers would answer right back in the next three innings. They scored a run in each of the third, fourth, and fifth frames. Jonathan Lucroy went 3-for-5 with an RBI to help Milwaukee’s cause. The Met bullpen of Josh Edgin, Carlos Torres, Dana Eveland, and Vic Black combined to shutout the Brewers over the final three and one-third innings. Wily Peralta (6-5) got the win for Milwaukee, as former Met Francisco Rodriguez nailed down a 1-2-3 ninth inning for his national league leading 20th save.

Game Ball: Peralta gets it, for his six and one-third innings, four hit, one run effort.

Eric Campbell came to the team hitting. They benched him.  Andrew Brown came to the team hitting and they benched him. The people that were hitting got benched and were replaced by the people who were not hitting.

This is pretty sad. How many of your personal lives are affected by this team??? Scary. You need to get a perspective. The team doesn't know you, doesn't care about you, and it isn't your money. If you can't separate a game meant for entertainment from your real life, you need mental help. Games are supposed to be fun. So that said, let's win the series tonight, and possibly save a Mets fan's life!

a subtle reminder of a how a team with good pitching and not a lot of offense, that plays sound fundamentals under a manager who instills winning, can overachieve.  You don't think the manager makes a difference?  Think again:

its early june and the mets are already playing in front of  friends and relatives...it is a SEA OF EMPTY SEATS.....the product on the field is UNWATCHABLE...THE DISDAIN for the GM ...THE MANAGER..AND THE OWNERSHIP IS PALPABLE....the players SUCK....even the multi-millionaires on this team should be ASHAMED to cash those un-godly checks they are paid...I KNOW ONE THING....THE METS WILL NOT GET ...ONE DOLLAR....of my money to pay for the crap on this team....AND ONCE AGAIN...MET FANS WILL HVE NO BASEBALL TO WATCH ALL SUMMER.

Every day I look at the stats on players available last off season. We actually went into spring training with the mind set, "let's see who will be our first baseman". Like the last couple of years wasn't enough to know Davis, duda and satin stunk!! Jose abreu hit his 19 hr last night. He makes .5 mill less than chris young does. How we weren't all over him only proves this team is broke and inept at decision making. I can hear the jose jose chants bringing energy to citi field. First base is a HITTERS position. We got one who can't even play vs lefties and who's stats don't even come close to even league average.

I am thoroughly disgusted with the only thing I enjoy doing to relax. Watching a Mets game has become TORTURE for me.

I cannot believe a team with all the money they claim to have, is fielding a team that cant even compete in triple A ball. What happened to professional scouts, trainers, coaches, managers to help a team WIN in this league? I throw my towel in, cant wait for football!

Wally Backman, much as I loved him as a player, won't fare much better as mgr of these Mets.  How can he? The owners are bankrupt and have hired a boldfaced liar to fill the roster with retreads and never-weres, all the while telling us we're capable of 90 wins! Not even Wally can get blood from a stone. He would be like slapping lipstick on a pig.  And, you know what that gets you.

This team stinks, the leadership stinks, and most of the players, particularly CY, DUD, and TEJADA stink....we have a stinking MESS for a ball club.

Sandy can't sign FA's to save his life, can't pick a manager, all his draft picks are still mediocre in A ball, won;t make a trade, and 90 wins. What a silly old man.

The Mets have to go 61-36  to win 90 games. Hah,hah. Can't wait for NFL training Camps.

Speaking of F;ores he was coming into his own hitting a Grand Slam, 3 hits 6 RBI's. The next Day he banged a double off the wall.

Tejada's defense and range is below par. He olayed a ball fight near him last night,. His defense is averag at best, and he can't hit, run and has no power.

I believe if Flores was playing EVERYDAY he would lead the team in RBI's. I wonder how many more games we would have won. On a team with no hitting and 5 easy outs, how do you play Tejada. It is maddening to watch that little no talent player start everyday, while we lose every game.

It was just over a week ago the Collins stated that Tejada & Flores would share the SS position.  ThenFlores sits a few games because Tejada is "hot" and finally gets a start in Chicago at 2b to give Murphy the day off.  Since that time, the Mets have played 6 games & Flores has started exactly 0 of them.  This is Collins idea of sharing?  And what has Tejada done during this time?  4 hits in 24 at bats which must be hot enough in Collins eyes to move him from the bottom of the lineup to batting leadoff the last 2 games where he has gone 1 for 7.  They need to send Flores back to Vegas where he can play everyday.  Its a waste to just have him sitting on the bench.  Q got more playing time when he was on the team!!!  Collins is an absolute moron!!!   Also I love listening to Gary, Keith & Ron but if the continue to say that Tejada is playing well they will start to lose thier credability for telling it like it is.

I feel worse about this team now, then I did 2 years ago.  Yeah 2 years ago they sucked, but I was a sucker for believing that by 2014 they would be contending and 2015 an actually good team.  Well, looking at them now, I see no promise.  Where is this team going to score runs from?  Ok, so Harvey comes back and maybe Noah is decent but the offense is still inept and I don't see this changing any time soon.  Why would they spend any money next year if they didn't this year?  If Harvey being out is actually their thinking in why they didn't spend this year, what a joke that would be.  I'd only except that excuse if his name was Lebron James.  I love baseball but the Mets make me want to puke so now I just watch the MLB channel most of the time to see actually good teams and mets lowlights.

I did not watch the game tonight and enjoyed myself, no angst, disappointment, etc. Fred will not sell, he could make a Billion Dollars, but this is his franchise and it's going to be Jeff's toy and Dad did not buy him training wheels so this incompetence will continue.

"Dillon Gee back July 1st"  It was suppose to be May 15th. So I guess after the All Star Break, maybe. It's one thing to be bad, but the fans are constantly lied to, so the Wilpon's are your Boss. I'll watch tomorrow because of the limited commercials and I enjoy Gary, Keith, and Ron, but I'm done watching until Noah's 1st start or when d'Arnaud comes back. I believe my blood pressure will be back to normal in two weeks.

If you graduated High School stop taking shots at Cerrone. 95% of you do the same thing in your lives. "Grow up". This blog is not the issue.

The worst thing about the Mets is not only are they subpar; they're boring.  What player in the Met everyday lineup does one get excited about watching?  Legares has been the closest thing for me this year, and now he's hurt.  Wright and Murphy are good ballplayers, but they're workmanlike.  The other "regulars" are not even worth mentioning.

I listened to the first two innings tonight on the radio, and then went on to do other things for the rest of the evening (checking on the score again only briefly in the 8th inning)  Predictably, I didn't miss much.

Stockholm Cerrone!

The Mets have held the poor guy hostage for so long, he now feels sympathy toward them.

"The way I understand it, Alderson still feels the Mets can win 90 games this year. We need to be patient. The Mets are on the right track.

According to Michael Baron, the pitching analyst, Duda is on track to produce as many runs as Todd Zeile in 2000, Chris Young could hit 20 homers with one hot streak, and Tejada is breaking out. Most importantly, despite d'Arnaud's slow start, he is continuing his development in AAA, and a Teagarden/Recker platoon is capable of a WAR that would land it in the top half of catchers in the NL.

If a few things break right, such as better luck in one-run games, the Mets could contend for the second Wild Card."

You give the "game ball" to an opposing player?? As pathetic as this blog has been during the past few years, this is a new low. Cerrone... you are pathetic. Seriously, give it up. If you have something to say, then say it. Don't do the passive-aggressive thing of giving your meaningless and arbitrary "trophy" to the guys in the other dugout. You really have bought into the pussification of the Mets... I honestly hope you leave town with Alderson and the rest of the deadweight in Queens and my Mets can return to their former glory without you pathetic apologists...

@pochemu Better to avoid using deGrom to start a sentence. It's like starting a sentence with "iTunes". Grammatically it should be "ITunes" but that doesn't look right.

@virgilio sosa I'm torn - I want to see them win but at the same time I'd like them to keep losing so eventually the ownership will have no choice but to clean house on the coaching staff and sub-par players.

Richard Alicea

I disagree....there are 16 easy outs on this team...Pitcher, DUD, TEJADA and CY.  No team can win with that many automatic outs.  The DUD came up twice with people on base and did nothing, nothing, NOTHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Doubleday
Doubleday

@eric88 Tejada isn't terrible, but he is a table setter in a line-up that needs less table setters and more run producers.  Flores has always been a run producer.  Let the kid play.

Richard Alicea
Richard Alicea

Same here JC...I've been a Met fan since 1962 and I've never felt so frustrated with this losing and we've had many losing seasons, but those teams never had 16 automatic outs in the line-up.  Many of the loses were a result of poor pitching and we always scored runs, but this team has no run producer...and what kills me is that they brought a kid up with potential and don't play him.  I would DFA or outright release both the DUD and CY and start BROWN and SOUPS, sit TEJADA and play FLORES at SS.  I'd keep TEJADA because he will make a good back-up at SS.

Yup. Been saying this for a while. Sandy got rid of all the exciting players: Dickey, Reyes, Beltran, Franky, Pagan, all super entertaining, and all GONE.

@bk_shogun It really is comical.  I thought it was a stupid addition even if it's only used when the Mets win.  If they're going to be giving it for all games, I have a feeling a lot of opposing players will be listed the next 100+ games.  Boycott!

@Doubleday @eric88 a table setter?  who's table?  1 for 7 at leadoff, 4 for his last 24, a .256 lifetime avg with a lifetime OBP of .326. 144 runs scored lifetime with a total of 14 stolen bases in 397 games and 1369 at bats.  What exactly is he setting?
