Recap: Braves 5 – Mets 3

Result: The Mets fell to the Braves 5-3 in the opener of a three-game series in Atlanta on Monday.

Need to knowCurtis Granderson got things going early with a leadoff home run off of Alex Wood, the 26th leadoff blast of his career. Travis d’Arnaud then registered an RBI double in the second to score Chris Young. Young’s sac fly in the third gave the Mets a 3-0 lead. Meanwhile, Zack Wheeler bounced back from the worst start of his career last week by allowing one earned run over seven and one-third innings. However, the bullpen would not be able to pick him up. Jeurys Familia came on to pitch the eighth inning and would make a key throwing error that helped load the bases with no one out. Then, Tommy La Stella singled to tie the game. Later in the inning, with two outs and the bases still loaded, Eric Campbell committed the Mets’ third error of the inning on a high hop, and the Braves took a lead they would not relinquish.

Game ball: La Stella gets it, for delivering the big blow off of Familia, a two-run single to tie the game in the eighth.

This team has a losing mentality and management isn't helping one iota.  The manager (?) keeps giving the same comments to the media...don't dwell on the past, we'll do better, I sat them down and talked to them.  The results...non-existant.  Good luck with this season and the following ones as long as this management is there to sit them down and talk to them.

The Eight Inning was a disaster! WE have to move on!!

How many hiccups are allowed because my patience is wearing kind of thin.  Terry says you can't dwell on it you just have to move on to a new day.  Umm, this is almost every day now.  Do ya think you could start holding these guys accountable and calling them out on their mistakes.  High school kids play better ball.

The 3 fielding errors in last night cost us the game. The fielding was sloppy to say the least. Just when things were looking brighter for our Metsies they find a way to spoil it.

This team makes so many mental and physical errors....poor base running.....etc....yes the team is filled with minor league talent however the fundamentals of the game have to be addressed and it starts with the manager and the coaching staff.....this is the reason why TC has to be fired.....any new manager may lose just as many games but perhaps the little mistakes will end and players will be held more accountable.....

Last night's loss was SO painful to watch......the culture of this team has GOT to changes at some point-how much longer is this going to be acceptable? Has anyone seen SI last week for the article on losing? Who was in the photo caption ? Of course , Mr Met!!!!! That's what this team is known for choking, losing in a gut wrenching fashion!!! When are the Wilpon's going to tire of this 'cause I know after rooting for the Mets since 1972, I sure am!!!!!!!!!!

Well Fred and Jeff, are you happy that your team is fighting for last place and every day another game further back?  You can thank your GM Sandy for the lousy job he's done in putting a decent team on the field.   You should own an airline because all you do is fly these young guys back and forth from Vegas.   Do something ballsy....fire Sandy and Terry and let's get some new blood running this team.   I'm so sick of listening to Terry in the post  game interview.  He shows no disappointment, or emotion.  The fans are taking the losses alot worse and enough is enough.  If your little leaguers can't catch a ball then maybe they should use 2 hands.  We've been rebuilding for a few years now and haven't made any progress because we're not building around anyone...we have no foundation.  You can't build around Wright he's not a HR hitter and he's not clutch at all but we have ALOT of money invested in him.  Murphy is carrying the team this season but knowing Sandy he'll go and trade Murphy for 3 more rookies.  All you season tix holders need to sit out 2015 and hurt the Mets in their pocketbooks.  They want you to sign early and promise you nothing.   Wait till  you see what they're putting on the field first.  If you like your seats don't worry, they'll still be there the year after.   We need to fill more than a couple of holes so it's looking like 2015 will be more of the same.  Sandy mismanaged 90 mil this season so we're still nowhere.

You know what Sandy says?......just wait till 2018!

giving the "game ball" to the opposing team? if its so hard to find ONE good thing that happened in the game regarding the mets to reward with some fictitious "game ball"  then just leave it out.

DON'T YOU NOTICE WE DO OK UNTIL THE 7-9 INNINGS, THE PRESSURE  INNINGS. IT TELLS ME THE YOUNG PITCHERS AND THE YOUNG PLAYERS CAN"T STAND THE PRESSURE AND MOSTLY FOLD! IF YOU LOOK BACK AT OUR LOSSES, I'LL BET YOU THAT ALOT OF THOSE GAMES WE WERE WINNING UNTIL THE 7-9 INNINGS. SOMETHING GOT TO BE DONE ABOUT IT.

ken1010

@Joe Wenzel

You don't tip your cap to a team that won only because in one inning you made three errors and walked in a run.  The Braves didn't earn that win.

The Mets lack of focus lost it.  The players were talented enough to make the routine plays that they flubbed.  They were panicking, rushing throws without their feet set (Familia), taking their eyes off the ball to make throws before they had the ball (Lagares and Campbell). Maybe the players should spend more time in the minors, but the coaches aren't doing their jobs either.

@suzyq Well said but you can't fire the GM and give the owners a pass.  If they intend to retain ownership of this team,, they must give the new GM a big market budget to work with.  And...a competent mgr.

@Jaime And Choo is near the top in OBP.  This "flexibility" of keeping to short contracts rules out the best players.  We will be left with second tier free agents, to supplement what little our farm can provide in terms of position players.

I'm on even less. Last year I started watching a few less, but still watched a decent amount. I used to to watch nearly every game. On average I would at most miss 3-5 games until last year. Like I said I still watched a decent amount, but it was far less. This year it's even less, last full game I watched was the nearly 5-hour game vs the Phillies when they left what 17 men on base? I really can't say how many games I've seen this year, but at most its probably 10-12 might even be a little less. If I'm home I'll pop in a film or watch a TV series on DVD. I might see an inning or two, but I'm not even paying attention normally online or working on a few writing projects.

My fantasy is that MLB somehow figures out how to get the Tampa ownership group into New York with the Mets when they contract or move the Rays to Montreal.

Hey it happened with the Marlins/Redsox/Expos situation.  John Henry was installed in Boston after getting into the game with Florida.
