Baseball America put together their 2013 Minor League All-Star team and Mets pitching prospect Rafael Montero made the cut.
Montero posted a 12-7 record and a 2.78 ERA between Double- and Triple-A in 2013, with a 1.101 combined WHIP. In 16 starts with Triple-A Las Vegas, Montero went 5-4 with a 3.05 ERA and 1.241 WHIP.
“Montero mastered all four levels of the full-season minors in two years and struck out more batters this season (150) than more-heralded Mets pitching prospects Noah Syndergaard this year or Zack Wheeler in 2012,” Matt Eddy wrote at Baseball America.
Montero threw a total of 155 1/3 innings, so should be on pace to throw around 185 next season, starting in Vegas.
