Yesterday, Mike Pelfrey pitched seven scoreless innings, while striking out six.
He also drove in a run with a base hit.
… the sinker is a swing-and-miss pitch, which is huge… also, that two-seamer cuts in across the plate and seems to be freezing guys… also, he’s using his pitches at any point in any count… add that to his confidence, he believes and himself, and he looks like a totally different pitcher than in years past… i’m happy for him… he’s working hard, and it’s paying off for mike, and i hope he’s about to take that next step in his career… good for him…
He told reporters after the game that he was happy with how he spotted his fastball, he thought his split-finger was ‘big today,’ and he gave a lot of credit to Henry Blanco, of whom he said:
“He’s pretty unbelievable back there. I’m probably not as good as he made it look, but, he did a good job. Another thing about him that was huge is he came over to me between innings… we communicated, and I think that’s huge for learning.”
