According to Bob Klapisch of the Bergen Record, Darryl Strawberry thinks Jenrry Mejia can be the next Mariano Rivera, adding, “There’s your closer.”

…i see what they see… it’s hard not to… but, it just seems so early to abandon the potential for him to be a dominant starting pitcher… but, i see what they see, which is that he has a nasty fastball, and a cutter to match, and they look very similar, and so he it’s easy to see the comparisons to mariano… the thing is, unlike mo, he is not nearly as consistent in his delivery, which is what makes mo so damn amazing… from what i can gather, the thought might be, why waste time trying to teach him a new pitch or two, in hopes he’ll be able to command them, when they could harness what he does well now, or at least sooner than later…
