Quote: Jason Bay Will Remain the Cleanup Hitter

Jason Bay went 0 for 12 in the series against the Reds with five strikeouts, and on their six game road trip, he was just 3 for 23 with one RBI and is now hitting .238 on the year.

After today’s 5-4 loss to the Reds, Jerry Manuel told reporters he plans to keep Jason Bay in the cleanup spot in the lineup, saying “We’re going to try and ride it out as long as we can.”

…Bay is struggling real bad and right now, and he’s killing them in the cleanup hole…as long as he continues to be ice cold, Jose Reyes isn’t going to get much to hit either…i have faith he will come out of this and go on a tear, much like he did during their eight game winning streak…but outside of five games or so, it has been a big time struggle for Bay, and it’s gone on for a long time now…it might not be a bad idea to make a temporary switch to try and get him and the rest of the offense going again…
