Quintanilla clears waivers, accepts role at Triple-A

Omar Quintanilla cleared waivers and accepted an assignment to remain with the Mets at Triple-A Las Vegas.

He was designated for assignment earlier this week when the team promoted SS Wilmer Flores.

Quintanilla has been hitting just .207 with a .258 OBP, one extra base hit and three RBI in 15 games this season, during which he played shortstop and two games at second base.

We're heading into mid-May and the Mets still don't have a major league shortstop on their roster.  But yeah, the Wilpons aren't broke...

With Flores and Campbell up maybe will see a change for the better...Campbell should start today and if he hits should remain at first and duda to the bench.

good riddance...every time a ball was hit to him I would close my eyes; he can't even bend to pick up the ball...DFA and no one took a flyer on him...wonder why...lol  The guy looked pathetic at SS, sorry but it's the truth.  Next to go...TEJADA then DUDA and finally EY JR (this guy can't hit a softball.)

That every team passed on him speaks volumes.  Mets brass must be Deaf , and dumb too.

Wait one second! Are you telling me that EVERY SINGLE team in baseball passed on this guy? Nobody wanted to take him for next to nothing?

Wow, how did this guy get on the field for the Mets EVER?

Bring him back up and demote Tejada.

I usually do not bother stating the obvious but in this case....................

The thing about is that there are at least 3 to 4 teams hurting for a SS...and not one took a flyer on him.  Guess they were afraid he'd brake his back if he bend just a little to pick up a line drive at the knees....lol

He'll be back. Anybody with MLB experience who doesn't cost much is always going to be appealing to this front office. I'll say we see him again sometime before July 4.

@Victor Triguero    One million.  He will never see the majors again.  He is just not good enough.

Am I too optimistic?

@mets2death @mets2891  Am I allowed to want both, or am I getting too crazy now?  The thing that bugs me the most is that both of these issues were FRONT AND CENTER all offseason.

Seriously, even us fans knew: #1) Tejada could not be counted upon to shoulder the load at SS - - #2) The Mets damn well better get some VIABLE insurance for Parnell at the back end.

And here we are.  Tejada continues to regress at the plate, playing OK defense PLUS we're relying on past-their-prime type relievers to pitch the most important inning of the game.  That's not to knock Farnsworth or Valverde - I think they'd be impact guys in the pen if they didn't have to close.  But relying on them to shut the door in the 9th over the course of an entire season is reckless and flat out stupid.  But that's what we get.  I'm not writing Granderson off yet, but considering he got the most lucrative deal Alderson has ever given, his impact should have been instant.  Otherwise that money should have been spread around and spent on guys who could ensure this team stays consistent.  Blowing leads in the 9th and trotting out a SS who can't even hit his own body weight is pathetic.

@stage52 @jdr9And he has speed and is hitting .300 with a .462 obp. Then again everyone in LV is having insane years. Brown has over a 1200 OPS with 6hrs and Taylor Teagarden is over 1100 OPS with 8 HRs.
