Pre-Game: Collins says F-Mart will DH tomorrow

This morning at Citi Field, Terry Collins spoke with reporters about a variety of topics, essentially saying the following:

  • Fernando Martinez will be the designated hitter at Yankee Stadium tomorrow and Saturday, and Carlos Beltran will DH on Sunday.
  • He wants to make sure Jason Bay is comfortable with the idea of batting second, and he hasn’t talked to him about it yet.
  • He’s looking forward to his first Subway Series.
  • He thinks the gap between Triple-A and the majors is so great because players are pushed through their systems so fast now.
  • He thinks the fact Justin Turner is so confident in his abilities is a big factor for his recent success.

Why is it that our coaches can't see that Pryor isn't the best option until season is nearly over or aboushi over winters? Or Vick over Geno. Is it an "organizational decision" or Rex?

Apparently Richard Sherman agrees with me about Odell Beckham jr....

“You’re the real deal. You just have to keep working,'” Sherman said to Beckham, the rookie relayed. “And he was kind of telling me some of the things that were going on and some of the things he was seeing. He said, ‘You’re going to be a great player. Keep working.'”

What are the odds Bent runs out of unique titles and themes for his BGA's?

Rich Cimini @RichCimini

Rex Ryan insists Pryor benching had nothing to do with tardiness, rather Jarrett's impressive play.

Does anyone really buy this?

Interesting take on jarrett from the Philly angle, particularly the fan comments: http://www.bleedinggreennation.com/2014/11/10/7186425/jaiquawn-jarrett-former-eagles-safety-excelling-new-york-jets

2nd rounder in 2011, went onto dysfunctional Eagles "dream team" that went bust with stars Asomugha and DRC at corners that got Reid and MM fired the next year.  Came from Temple (Eagles back yard) and was overmatched leading to his release.  Most of the fan comments suggest they gave up on him too quick in a shaky regime.

@a57se Finding a quality WR in the 1st 4 rounds of this past draft was as easy as shooting fish in a barrel.  Probably the biggest reason for firing Idzik is his 4th round misses, while Bryant was available...both times.

@a57se  I find it hard to believe that first round picks are being benched just for their play on a 1-8 team. He needs to learn, and the best way to learn is to play.

@a57se

Sure. Jarrett truly is playing better. It's not a huge stretch to say it's true. 100% true? Maybe not. But at least partially.

@williamg1 yeah, I noticed that to and I have to admit(although its killing me) that he is a major improvement over Winters.

@williamg1 That's excellent news, it would be great to have a young, cheap guy on that line, where the average age is starting to become an issue

@jaygo Just wasn't a scheme fit there.

@SackDance99 @a57se I agree that not getting a WR is horrible especially with guys like Bryant and John Brown looking like steals,  but Odell Beckham was never a possibility

@Ron Alexander @williamg1 Admitting someone is a major improvement over Winters is no big deal.

Hopefully he'll continue to get better and one day you can admit he's actually a good player!

@Bent @jaygo Agreed.  BTW, while you're at it, I'd enjoy your take on the positioning of the safeties.  I don't know if it comes through on the TV, but our safeties on 90% of the plays were in the next county like 20 yards or more off the ball.  I saw this with Pryor last few weeks and it looked like they were protecting him to me.  Yesterday, Ben was forced to go underneath all game as the safeties ran to any WR that came down field.  I was surprised Steelers didn't go more to the TE over the middle but it looked like the LBs were stunting and hiding their coverages having Ben all confused.  Anyway, the scheme looked key to me yesterday and I'd like your take on that.  I thought Rex clearly outcoached Tomlin.

@Bent @jaygo

You'd think they'd know that before drafting the guy in the 2nd round...

then again, when your Offensive Line Coach becomes your defensive Coordinator, all bets are off!

Good post Jaygo, I saw the same things. Great job by Rex!

Oh yeah, signing Mike Cuddyer, a soon to be 36 year old scrub is definitely important news!

I think it's perhaps too early to say that, although he's doing pretty well so far.

It was more a comment about the fact that "upgrade over Winters" does not necessarily have to constitute "good".

Allen Robinson.

Cooks has 500 yards with Drew Brees throwing to him. Cooks also was healthy for all of training camp.

Robinson has 550 yards with Blake Bortles throwing to him. Robinson missed the entire training camp and didn't play a single preseason snap.

We could've gotten Robinson in the 2nd.

Next you'll be posting that their ball boy got a B+ in geometry...

and is on a fast track to their GM job.

But then we wouldn't have Jace Amaro!

I can't believe I just did an On the Clock mock but I did.

I picked Winston in the 1st, Kevin White in the 2nd and Ameer Abdullah in the 3rd....

@a57se @juunit @BDarc23 @SackDance99

Oh no! No Jace Amaro? What ever would we do without our designated dumpoff "catcher?"

Honestly, the way Robinson's looked, taking him at 18 would've been more than OK.

@Bklyn Dude @a57se Wait, there's a difference.  I'd say this Mets update has just as much relevance than 98% of his postings.

He's like Mike Lupica who said earlier today the Jets should have a parade down the Canyon of Heroes for winning their second game.

Lupica's mad and in a foul mood because the Giants were awful again this week.

Landry is playing well for the Phins apparently too. And obviously Brown in Arizona. Seferian-Jenkins has 2 TDs in the last 3 games.

The list goes on.
