Pre Game: Jerry Manuel on Nieve for Sat., Niese, etc.
Jerry Manuel told Mike Francesa on WFAN that the team has a daily debate on whether to keep Jenrry Mejia in the bullpen, or send him to the minor leagues to be a starting pitcher.
Francesa asked Manuel how he votes, and he said, “While I’m here, you keep him where he is.”
Original Post at 4:53 pm:
According to SNY producer Matt Dunn, Mets manager Jerry Manuel talked to reporters before today’s game, and essentially said:
- Fernando Nieve is the leading candidate to start Saturday, and would likely be able to throw 80 pitches.
- Jon Niese will throw a side-session tomorrow.
- Niese will get at least one start in the minors before being activated.
- He would like to see RA Dickey get another start.
- Dickey has a bruise on his elbow, but he should be fine.
Manuel will be a guest of Mike Francesa on WFAN at 5 pm, which you can listen to here.
