The Least You Should Know:

  • Pat Misch started, and lost his third consecutive start despite pitching pretty well once again, allowing four runs, three earned, on 82 pitches.
  • The Mets bullpen ended their scoreless streak at 17 2/3 innings when Ryota Igarashi allowed a run in the seventh inning.
  • The Marlins had three runners thrown out at home plate tonight.
  • Ruben Tejada is now 1 for his last 34 at the plate and Jose Reyes is 0 for his last 10.

The Mets made it exciting at the end, but fell JUST short. It’s almost as if they are a hit here, or a pitch there from being right in the mix of the playoff races, but, like tonight, they just haven’t been able to come up big for the most part lately.

I thought early in the game the Mets had an awful approach at the plate – Alex Sanabia had thrown just 60 pitches through six innings – I know Sanabia was throwing strikes, but the Mets hitters weren’t selective in the strike zone and the results showed early.

I don’t think the Mets have been more than one game over or one game under .500 overall, but they have meandered all month, and if they aren’t going to be able to get winning streaks going, and take advantage of losses by the Giants, Braves and Phillies, they aren’t going to be able to make a 1973-type run this season.

Up Next:

The Mets will look to take the rubber game of their three game series against the Marlins tomorrow night at Citi Field, with Anibal Sanchez facing Jon Niese. Game time is 7:10 pm.
