Porcello available, but Mets aren’t looking for a SP

Rick PorcelloShaun Marcum received a cortisone injection yesterday for a right shoulder impingement.

However, the Mets are not actively seeking a starting pitcher, sources told Andy Martino of the Daily News.

That said, the Tigers are calling teams about trading away RHP Rick Porcello, a major league executive told Martino.

“They are asking for a lot, but I think they will move him,” the source is quoted as saying.

Yesterday, Jon Morosi from FoxSports.com said, while several teams have scouted him this spring, the Orioles, Rangers and Padres were possible destinations for Porcello.

The 24-year-old Porcello was 10-12 with a 4.59 ERA in 31 starts and 176 innings for the Tigers last season.

Matthew Cerrone, MetsBlog.com:

I’m pretty certain the Mets and Tigers discussed Porcello this past off season, as the Tigers did with most teams. I believe Detroit was mostly interested in swapping Porcello to fill bullpen needs on the big-league roster, more along the lines of a Bobby Parnell than a major-league ready prospect. Martino’s source says Detroit is still seeking bullpen help, so that asking price probably hasn’t changed much since winter.
