Mets infield prospect Wilmer Flores started at shortstop Tuesday.
Ruben Tejada started there on Wednesday. Tejada will start at shortstop again Thursday, receive a day off, then start three of the next four games, Terry Collins told reporters earlier this week.
“We continue to look at how he is doing, but it won’t be a judgment based on one game or two games or three games,” Sandy Alderson said about Tejada on Wednesday. “We’ve got a lot of spring training left. In the meantime, we’ll continue to look at what our options may be.”
The Mets have been connected in trade rumors to Mariners SS Nick Franklin; as well as free-agent SS Stephen Drew, who is reportedly still seeking more than a one-year deal.
The Mariners have reportedly been asking for young, controllable, big-league ready pitching, such as Vic Black, Rafael Montero or Jacob deGrom. It’s assumed they will demand the best pitcher available, since they are not in a position to have to trade Franklin before Opening Day.
It was reported Wednesday that the Mets would likely need to part with C prospect Kevin Plawecki and Montero to get D-Backs SS Didi Gregorius or Chris Owings (Daily News, Mar. 12).
