Pics from PSL: Curtis Granderson explains the BP Game

Matthew Cerrone, Lead Writer

I learned about a game David Wright, Curtis Granderson, Ike Davis, Travis d’Arnaud, Chris Young and Lucas Duda were playing during batting practice yesterday.

“It’s a good way to help us work on different situations during the game,” Granderson explained to me.

He says the group and hitting coach agree on a situation, such as, ‘Runner on second, two out,” or, “Runner on first, no outs,” after which they start to hit with an objective. Base hits are one point, outs are negative one point. There are two goals, to score the most points, with bonus points for how many hits you can get in a row…

The guys really get in to it. It seems like they play for who pays for dinner, or something to that effect, but in either case they’re fairly passionate about it, with some slamming helmets and all while goofing on one another the entire time…

By the way, I filmed an episode of Riding Shotgun with Granderson on Sunday, which we expect to air in March. I think it came out really well, especially the first few minutes when he stopped to sign autographs through the window for 10 minutes. It was pretty fun getting to see that experience from on the inside. I hope everyone enjoys it… stay tuned…

They're alleged major leaguers, and they don't know about situational hitting ?..........this is something taught in high school

Guess Davis and Young are buying a lot of dinners this month.

As long as the players discuss hitting situations and leave Sandy Hudgens and Terry on the couch we have a chance.

Matt, did anyone know who you were or ask for your autograph?  :)

Nice wrangler in the back.. Your's or Grandy's?  Looks like mine but I've got polished wheels.

Something tells me duda comes in last and ends up paying a lot of these meals

@Bob Burket Those 2 scenarios in your question are completely separate situations I'm sure. Because anyone who knew who Matt was wouldn't ask for his autograph.

@Tony Zucco I don't know there's some strong competition for last there with Ike and CY as well. I'm sure Duda definitely eats the most at the meals though.

@Tony Zucco  - Thanks.. Probably missed that.  Liking the hype so far this Spring.. Hoping to see some good things post-All Star break..
