Pavano hospitalized, Mets still looking for starting pitcher

According to the Associated Press, Carl Pavano had his spleen removed last week after the pitcher was injured when he fell in the snow. He has been in a Connecticut hospital for nearly two weeks.

In early January, the Star-Ledger said the Mets had been having preliminary discussions with Pavano, who has also been pursued this winter by the Rockies and others.

As I said last week, the Mets are still looking to acquire another starting pitcher, even after signing Shaun Marcum. There were reports over the weekend connecting the Mets to free-agent Roy Oswalt, which remains a possibility, as well as other free agents. My guess is they’d like to get a veteran on a minor-league deal to give them more options in camp, be it for the rotation or maybe even in the bullpen…
