Greg Bedard:  "Check and mate."

Bent, can you think of any plays Rex has run the past couple of years that are unique or at least very rare for other teams? I can only think of the Richardson/Harrison/Ellis goalline play, but that's probably more unique personnel than play design. :)   I wouldn't mind if they busted out a weird play once in a while, but I don't think they do so often.

The worst part about this is Francesa insinuating that the reason why the Jets offense is so awful because the Patriots had their defensive playbook in between rants about how "Indians" are offended buy the Redskin logo. I know this has next to nothing to do with theis thread but I had to get that off my chest. It bugged me so much I couldn't sleep. He said "indians" so many times I would have thought I was listening to Cleveland sports radio.

Don't think for one second that this journalist didn't know EXACTLY what he was doing. Most writers write to elicit a reaction and page views nowadays sadly. On the flip side...Pettine was poorly media trained and you don't open your fat mouth about certain things. He should have known a whole lot better the cause-and-effect of what would happen.

Gary Myers ‏@garymyersNYDN  18s

My column: Why did Rex give out the Jets defensive playbook and risk it could wind up in New England?

My rebuttal: Because it doesn't matter.  And I wrote that rebuttal without needing to read your column.  Sorry, Gary.

The media sucks. Getting worse, too. Please say Steiny is gonna make a career of reporting on the Jets. Its our only hope to balance out the bullchit.

@Disgruntled Jets Fan Oh, I always mention them in BGA where there's something unconventional.

Offensively I recall Robert Turner motioning out wide and running a go route and a trips right formation where the receivers all had their hands in the dirt for no apparent reason.

On defense, they do stuff like put Po'uha at middle linebacker but that kind of thing is becoming more commonplace around the league.  When Brodney Pool lined up at defensive tackle a few times that was an odd one.

@mikes Like he says, if he wanted page views, why hide this "story" lower down and leave it out of the headline.

Bedard is a top-level writer and also a good analyst, he shouldn't be tarred with the same brush as the Jets beat.

@jaym I actually remember seeing that at the time, although I had less of a clue what to do with it!

@Bent I was just going to bring up the Myers column.   How lost is he?  "Nothing to gain and no business handing out his beloved schemes."    Can't Rex do anything he wants with his own schemes?

I nominate Steiny to replace Cimini.

@Bent @mikes

If you read the article, you would agree with Bedard.  It is obvious the quote was taken out of context (as I posted yesterday when this hit).  I think Fat Costello of the NY Post first manufactured the "news."

@t__k @Bent Nothing to gain is a bit of a leap too.  Saban probably appreciated the gesture and will share his own intel.  Always good to have some respected friends in the coaching community.  Maybe Saban read it and made some suggestions that Rex was able to put into practice?

@t__k @Bent "If you cover the NFL and think that having another team’s playbook (outside of an individual weekly game plan, which no one said anything about) has any relevance, either you’re new on the beat, don’t know the sport you cover very well, or just grab any appearance of controversy for clicks without regard of the actual facts."

Well, we know he's not "new on the beat", so...

@williamg1 @Bent We're hoping he gets an assignment we can link to without being way off topic.
