Bobby Parnell warms up 2

Parnell confident of return in spring

Bobby Parnell is pleased with his progress after Tommy John surgery and expects to be ready for spring training (NJ.com, Sept. 3).

Parnell,  named the Mets closer before the season only to get hurt on Opening Day, was in the Mets clubhouse during their series in Miami. Parnell is doing his rehab in Port St. Lucie.

Parnell told NJ.com he is throwing from 60 feet and will move to 75 feet next week. He is not scheduled to throw off a mound until after Christmas.

“I’ve had no setbacks,” he told NJ.com. “The arm feels great.”

Parnell talked with Kevin Burkhardt about rehabbing from Tommy John surgery and what he thinks his future holds…

Currently #4 on the depth chart. Welcome to middle-relief, Bobby!

Didn't he say his arm felt great when he took the mound opening day? This guy should be a 7th inning man until he can learn to put his aspirations second to what the team needs.

Why is this a story? When Parnell ACTUALLY throws off of a mound, then run something about it.

I love Mejia, but I'd give the job back to Parnell until he loses it...then you push Mejia and Familia back to 7 and 8...with Black in the mix, the bullpen would be a playoff level pen....let's see if the ready if the team could be!

@law_dogg except (and i posted this on cerrone's retarded article about parnell the other day too)...he will only be 10 months post-surgery at the beginning of ST.  and black is hurt right now.  and mejia is pitching hurt and will probably need surgery for his hernia after the season.

can we wait until they're all healthy in april at least before we start yammering about how good our 2015 bullpen is?  not to mention they're going to have to be, when we open the season with flores/tejada at SS, herrera at 2B, d'arnaud in LF and plawecki catching...

@law_dogg I'm not the biggest fan of Parnell, but he should be given nothing back.  It's hardly like he's this elite closing option, he should have to work to get his spot back. Outside of his arm he had severe neck issues....let's see if he has anything left before we anoint the guy.
