Opinion: Make the Wall Blue in Citi Field

In case you missed it, over the weekend, the Mets announced a variety of additions to Citi Field for 2010, including naming the bridge in center field, and installing a team museum and Hall of Fame, located adjacent to the Jackie Robinson Rotunda and accessible from both inside and outside the ballpark.

Actually, I was slow to criticize the lack of Mets stuff in Citi Field when the season started, though it bugged me more and more as the year went on… and, I am not that fired up by the changes today, though I am sure I will find them more interesting when I get to a game in 2010.

Don’t get me wrong, I like these additions.  In 20 years, though, I bet nobody will remember how or when certain adjustments were made, they’re just going to know they exist… and that’s fine by me.

In the end, its the product on the field that will make Citi Field seem like home, it’s about the memories that have yet to be created, and not the color of the paint or the name of the bridge.

Also, things like aesthetics take on more meaning when the team is losing.  For instance, while both would be nice, I bet most Mets fans would exchange a Tom Seaver Statue for a 2010 Championship Trophy any day… and so, the point is, while i’m glad the team is doing right by the fans, today, if it really wants to do right by the fans, they should get back to winning.

That said, if I could make one change to Citi Field, not involving the talent on the field, it would be to change the color of the outfield wall and Bridge from Soot to Blue, such as the following picture, sent to me by Dan Asnis:

Good trade...amac was overused....and it semed to me he was on the ice everytime we were scored against....a shadow of himself compared to last season

Only question left is does Charles wang and Garth Snow wanna be the sound tigers or the Islanders?

Thankfully he's gone. He never earned that "A" on his jersey anyway

Maybe Snow can pull a rabbit out his hat with the Upcoming Vanek trade. Its down to two teams Anaheim and Boston. Both teams think there going to the Stanley cup finals and neither team wants the other team to acguire Vanek.

The trade deadline and the draft are the only two days of the year which Islander fans have something to look forward to.

Would love to see Malcolm Subban from Boston.  That would be a game changer type of trade…!  C'mon Garth… make it happen…!

EJ hradek just said that Vanek is a scratch tonight

You just can't keep amassing picks!! This team needs NHL level talent pronto!! Picks save wang money and foster the illusion of better things in the future which never materialize under this crew!!

@Lyle Odelein Might as well wait to after trade deadline and  season to see who is playing who. Right now like San jose to win the Cup.

Reports coming that Vanek may be out of lineup tonight…

I would love to see Garth take the picks he acquired thus far, a 2nd, 3rd and a 4th rd pick and fill one of our needs in the immediate future. We need a winger, a veteran defensive defenseman and more than anything else we need a goalie for next yr.

Other wise, next yr will be another bottom of the barrel, what can we sell at the deadline type of yr.

I just read the Islanders want both Emerson Etem and Sami Vatanen from Anaheim but Anaheim is not sure if they want to give up both. I really like both players but if push came to shove i would rather have Etem. Etem is going to be a big time scorer as he was in the minors and has 7 goals in 20 plus games with limited ice time. He was the player picked 29th right before Brock Nelson. Vatanen is an offensive defenseman but is rather small at 5/10. Also Boston is trying hard.

Ducks are out I believe. LA and Boston ATM but we'll see

@Chris R    Hey Chris maybe Snow surprises us with the vanek trade. The 2nd,3rd for Amac was very good in my opinion.

@doc942 You must have seen him play a lot of games to want him that bad, is he that good?

@orange2327 I agree.  They should have traded Amac for Ryan Kessler.

What were you expecting for Amac?

@orange2327 You can package them for a different deal later, you never know.

@mrcisback

This organization needs wingers. (preferably RW'ers)

Aside from goalies, it is the biggest weakness organization wide.

We DO NOT need another smallish offensive defenseman!!!!

@rmreturns @mrcisback  The Cory Schneider train pulled in last year at the draft and Garth Snow didn't get on board. That trade would have turned the Islanders around.

Never seen him play. I'm like the rest of us. I read about these prospects just like you do. I hear he's going to be a very good goalie. What have you heard?

We need everything but a first line C, first line RW, and a 3rd line center.

mrcisback

@willymayshays @mrcisback   I agree. I think Etem is a big 6/01 210LB left winger who could play center. I remember watching the 2010 draft and hoping Etem would fall to the Islanders at #30 but Anaheim picked him at 29 and we took Brock. Etem was rated around 14 to 15 in that draft and slipped. I'd be real happy if Snow can pull that off.

@mrcisback @doc942Guys - we've  been down this road before.  Everyone seems to not want to recall that Vancouver wanted a pick that would get them into position to get Horvat, and that's it.  Isles didn;t have that pick, the Devils did.  Could he have offered more for Schneider?  Maybe.  And then maybe people would say they overpaid.

Fact is, VAN wanted that pick.  Period. It was all over the coverage.

And don't call me a snow apologist Vic.  You can kill him on Bernier and Bishop all you want and be pretty spot on.  This one, Vancouver wanted what they wanted and the Isles didn't have what they wanted.  Nobody is saying that Horvat is the 2nd coming of anybody.  But again, fact is that is who VAN wanted.

dkdk
dkdk

Niño and the 15th should have beaten Bo Horvat. But that would hav kept us out of the Clutterbuck market and where would we be then?

mrcisback
mrcisback

@doc942 No i wouldn't offer that package.  I would try and counter that offer with something else first. I'd try and negotiate with Vancouver first.

mrcisback
mrcisback

@Lyle Odelein    I think he offered Nino. If you want Cory Schneider then you offer Frans Nielson and the #15 in the draft.

mrcisback
mrcisback

@Vicp73 @mrcisback    If Garth Snow couldn't come up with a better offer for Schneider then Bo Hovart then he should resign right now.

Vicp73
Vicp73

@doc942  what Snow couldn't offer this seasons  first for Schneider? Plus a prospect or so?

doc942
doc942

Exactly...! I love how everyone knows exactly what conversation took place between Garth and Vancouver.

Vicp73
Vicp73

@mrcisback  MrC  that 9th pick overall(Bo Horvath) is the second coming of Sidney Crosby. It's amazing how far the Snow supporters will go to justify Snow's incompetence. What about Bernier,Bishop and Khoudobin? All were available last season, but i'm sure you'll get an explanation why Snow missed the boat on that one to

Isleguy27

Low balled? What did he offer…do you know?

doc942
doc942

Strome, Reinhardt and a #1. Do you do it?

mrcisback
mrcisback

@Lyle Odelein    If you want a certain player badly from another team you tell the other GM "take a look at my team and prospects and let me know what it will take for us to acquire Cory Schneider. Name the players or prospects and lets try and get a deal done." Apparently Snow didn't do that. He low balled the Vancouver GM and lost out to the Devils.

Isleguy27
Isleguy27

You know, I'm not sure where you got your information from, but I just heard Arthur Staple on our local radio broadcast talk about Schneider and he said the Islanders were in on Schneider last year, but the Canucks opted to go with the Devils.

I know his brother plays for Montreal I have no idea how good he is. We need someone to be our #1 goalie NOW, I don't think he is ready to do that.

shlo

@orange2327 You know I've been calling to send the entire coaching staff to Siberia . This is another story, Amac is not the player that will bring you an NHL ready return. Picks is the best you can do, this is the reality. You will always need picks. We all know that most of them don't work out. Sometimes they do,

mrcisback
mrcisback

@willymayshays @mrcisback  I'm not to sure but if the guy can come in and be a scorer i could care less if he's not physical. Remember Molson wasn't physical either.
