According to Andy Martino of the Daily News, Sandy Alderson will speak to Triple-A Buffalo manager Ken Oberkfell and minor league field coordinator Terry Collins about the managerial opening, likely next week.
I heard the team would likely interview Collins weeks ago, and it always made sense. He’s well respected by the team and around the game.
Oberkfell reminds me of Lou Brown from Major League, though nobody ever agrees with me. Anyway, he HAD TO be interviewed. It would be beyond disrespectful to ignore him, at Triple-A, given the number of years and jobs he has done for this organization. Passing him over, regardless of his intention, would be a slap in the face and send a bad signal to baseball. So, I’m glad he’s getting a look.
Martino also says Wally Backman could interview tomorrow, while Double-A Binghamton manager Tim Teufel will interview ‘soon.’
Earlier today, Mike Puma of the New York Post said Alderson will speak with Chip Hale on the West Coast this weekend.
