Syndergaard Thor

Noah Syndergaard likes the nickname Thor

Mets RHP Noah Syndergaard has taken to the nickname “Thor,” he told John Harper during an interview for SNY’s Mets Hot Stove.

“I think it’s based on my last name. The home planet of Thor is is called Asgard, which is like my last name,” he said. “It just kind of stuck with me. I guess a Mets fan gave it to me, and I’m not going to say, ‘No.’ It’s not a bad name to have.”

According to Wikipedia, “In Norse mythology, Thor is a hammer-wielding god associated with thunder, lightning, storms, oak trees, strength, and the protection of mankind.”

Last year on Halloween, Syndergaard dressed up as the movie-version of Thor during a workout and tweeted out the image to his 16,000 followers.

Syndergaard is described by teammates as a bulldog when pitching, but he told Harper he is goofy with a big sense of humor when off the mound.

For instance, last June, he told the Press & Sun Bulletin that each of his gloves has a name, such as LION, Heisenberg, Rick Grimes, and Drago, in honor of Ivan Drago from “Rocky IV.”

Syndergaard pitched a scoreless inning in the MLB Futures Game on July 14 at Citi Field and says he hopes to make his first big push for the Mets next spring.

Weird dude man but good for him.  The Mets have had too many of these characterless, passionless, wimps over the last few years its good to see they have a few guys of substantial character who all seem more than ready to compete at a high level.

The question is after he's called up mid-season and "if he be worthy" will he name his most hammer-like pitch  "Mjolnir" ?

And of course to further the analogy our Thor has a mjolnir of his own, in his 12-6 HAMMER curveball

I've always called Niese Captain Hook on account of his nasty curveball and shapely nose.

Dark Knight, Thor, Captain America, Wheeler should have something. Do any Super Heroes have wheels? Like Optimus Prime or something?

@Opti-Mets-tic Last year people were calling him Robin as in Harvey and Wheeler being Batman and Robin.
