Noah Syndergaard hoping Mets fans still believe in him

Noah Syndergaard hopes Mets fans are not losing faith in him as a top prospect, he told MetsBlog’s Rob Brender after Tuesday’s game for Triple-A Las Vegas.

In his last five starts for Triple-A, Syndergaard is 1-2 with a 10.42 ERA, during which opponents are batting .372 against him.

He entered the season ranked by MLB.com as the team’s best prospect, as well as the third-best right-handed pitching prospect in baseball.

“I’m still young, I’m just 21 years old, I hope Mets fans still have a little faith in me and have not given up on me quite just yet,” he said. “I’m still a baby here, I still have lots to learn.”

Syndergaard said he needs to continue to work on being more unpredictable.

“A lot of times I get fastball happy, and you can’t really sneak a fastball past these hitters,” he explained to Brender. “The key for me is to be  pitcher not a thrower. I need to locate my off-speed pitches when they start timing up my fastball. I need to try to make the hitter uncomfortable in the box, that’s always an advantage.”

Terry Collins told reporters it is possible Syndergaard is not promoted to the big leagues this season.

“There’s a possibility you might not see him” Collins said. “Right now, we’ve got bigger issues on the table.”

He's a smart kid. What do we want as mets fans? For him to come up now and go 14-0? Of course, but it ain't gunna happen. Let's worry about what we got and not tear this kids UCL.

I still believe in you Noah. do LESS thinking relax and your talents will rise to the top. You will be top of the rotation starter. Please don't doubt yourself. Most Mets fans like me have no doubt! enjoy yourself

You are young and the Mets could use you but don't be in a hurry because with the team on the field now you won't get any run support.  Even when you pitch well they will lose games for you.  I've seen it so many times with Santana and Harvey too.

We believe in YOU, problem aint u, its the wilpons believe in themselves, ill just keep watching team USA in the world cup every 4 yrs, they will win before the mets do. At least team USA puts a competitive team out there. Maybe if the wilpons go bankrupt And they have to put shea stadium back together we would fill some seats and win a few games...

Only if you still do, Thor…

That statement makes me think he doesn't believe in himself. Hey Thor, my advice is watch a Matt Harvey start and do whatever you see already worked.  Just dominate.

Thor is the man. We are not going anywhere this year so there is no need to rush him if he is not ready.

Wow... I can't believe the BS I'm reading. This is just another article to make fans believe they're more important than they really are. Trust me - Noah doesn't care one iota about what the fans think. He does, however, care about what GMs think because they are the ones that will eventually write the big check that will set him up for life. And it's not because he's a bad guy, that's just how it is. Believe me, guys like Chris Young sleep better than you or I and will take boos happily from fans as long as they're making their multi-millions. Noah will too - I just hope it's with the Mets

We still believe.  I have a list of 5 untouchables, not including David Wright.  Harvey, Wheeler, Syndergaard, Familia and Mejia.  Second list of 5 include Herrera, Smith, Niese, Nimmo and Rosario.

The Mets are notorious for overhyping their prospects, the list goes on and on. You can't believe anything this front office says.

Top Prospect? Not any more. I still get a kick out of some delusional Mets fans who believe all the hype about minor league prospects. Let this be another lesson. Until someone proves himself at the MLB level, no one has any idea whether these players will pan out, let alone be stars.

People were saying how Syndy and TDA for Dickey could be the best trade in Mets history. I hope they're correct, but right now, that projection seems miles away.

We may be some of the most inpatient fans in baseball,Noah. But rest assured I for one and I'm sure many of us if not almost all completely believe in you.

Cant wait to see you with the big club.If not this year then next for sure.Relax and put you're time in and you'll be here before you know it and contributing in a big way in our rotation.

Pitch like a A+ prospect with a low era of below 2.5 not 5 and all fans and coaches will believe in you not now with a era above 5...you have all the tools to become a very good pitcher just trust your stuff and you'll see

It's not an issue about the fans losing faith in you.  The real issue is whether you lost faith in yourself.  Perhaps the media and the fans pushed you too fast.  Take some time, and make your debut in September during roster expansion.  Just remember, you'll be a solid Major League starter in good time.

Isn't there any thought about how Vegas chews up good pitching? There is a long list of teams that avoid that league with their top pitching prospects, prefering to let them develope in AA and then promoting them.

@iamwilpon You really think the minor leaguer " care one iota about what the fans think."?

Why wouldnt he want the fans to think well of him. Players do not like hearing boos. They want to have a fun place to play.

Nick Squatrito

Wheeler and Mejia should not be untouchables and there's a chance Herrera isnt good enoughbto make it to the bigs. Your lists are stupid. If every player with talent is untouchable thrn how are we supposed to make a trade? Fans like you don't seem to understand other teams won't give us their players for free or for losers like Duda and Tejada

@Michael Paulsen Overhyping prospects - I don't buy it.  Hype comes from media folk who read scouting reports and start writing with great hyperbole about how fantastic these kids are before they reach the majors.  Fans pick up on it and start waxing poetic and assiging nicknames to people they've never seen play.  The scouts and guys in the front office will of course be positive about the prospects they select- but why wouldn't they?  The Mets aren't different from any other team in this regard.  perhaps I missed it, but I don't recall anyone in the front office making grand proclamations about Syndergaard's future that would be taken in any way as 'overhyping.'

Nick Orozco
Nick Orozco

It blows my mind how people could think this trade wouldn't pan out for us. Mind you Dickey was a 40 year old pitcher who got us this return. What would've happened if we would've kept him then? Let him be the ace for a team that still can't score runs behind him? Who'd be our starting catcher now? Recker? Stop crying and be grateful we got a big return of young talented players who will be essential to this team weather it be playing on it or used as trade pieces for more talent.

@Noahsyndergaard i cant overstate how much us mets fans believe in you without sounding weird. Dont worry about that. We are behind you 110%
