Niese to DL, Carlyle in

Jon Niese fires 1abThe Mets have placed pitcher Jon Niese on the DL with a left shoulder strain. Niese was hit with a line drive in his last start and had to come out of the game.  It’s his shoulder that remains worrisome however as his velocity has dipped in recent starts. That hasn’t affected his production as Niese’s ERA remains at 2.96, the best on the Mets’ staff.

To replace Niese on the roster, the Mets called up right-hander Buddy Carlyle from Triple-A Las Vegas. Replacing Niese in the rotation will likely fall to Dillon Gee, who is slated to come off the DL Wednesday to start against the Braves.

More and more I'm starting to think they really can't trade Colon at the deadline this year. With Harvey on the DL all year, and 2 rather fragile guys in the rotation in Niese and Gee, they need his innings.

Nothing about this makes any sense.

The heck with 35-36 starts and 240~ innings, can anybody (??) make 32 starts and throw 200~+ innings anymore?? Seems teams are so "scared" with their investments in arms that 28~ starts and `170 innings seems an "accomplishment". When do 6 man rotations become the norm like the 1 inning reliever (cept for the "long man - big deal 3~4 innings or the closer occasionally getting 4 or maybe 5 outs)...disguisting, I miss Seaver, Matlack, Koosman..Gooden Darling, Fernandez, Ojeda...et all!

It hasn't affected his production as Niese ERA is still at 2.96. Soooo why is he on the DL. Seems funny how Gee is coming back and Niese is going on the DL. I tell you these Mets are so full of S!!!T

Everything Collins and Alderson touch turns to crap. Their tenure is the New York Mets "Dark Ages." Is there anything they can do right?

So why did they conceal Niese's elbow injury? Because you can't trade a guy on the DL. Once whatever potential deal Sandy had brewing fell thru ... There was no longer a reason to conceal it.

Disgusting.

Good move. Let him rest and come back after the All Star break.

so, does Carlyle go right back down when Gee gets activated on Wednesday?

Yes he does. He's here more to spell the bullpen because Torres is most likely out 2 more days
